Here’s how to play 👇

1️⃣ Lay 6 random number cards on the table.

2️⃣ Roll the dice.
The number you roll becomes your target.

3️⃣ Now use the 6 cards to make the target number.

4️⃣ You can use +, −, × and ÷ to combine the cards in different ways.

5️⃣ The challenge? Think, experiment, and find a combination that works!

6️⃣ Keep the cards you used to make the target number.

7️⃣ Draw new cards from the deck until you have 6 cards again. Only replace the cards you used.

8️⃣ Roll the dice again and continue playing.

This is not just a maths game.

Kids are learning to look for possibilities, work backwards, try different strategies and think logically.

And the best part?

There isn’t just one way to reach the answer. 🧠

Before kids learn ascending & descending numbers, teach them THIS. 👀

Don’t start with numbers.

Start with ORDER.

Watch this SR KG child.

First, the objects are arranged in ascending order.

Small → big.

Then I mix them all up.

And now…

She has to arrange them in descending order.

Big → small.

Why do this before introducing numbers?

Because children need to EXPERIENCE the concept before they can understand the symbols.

When we jump straight to:

23, 45, 67, 89…

and say, “Arrange in ascending order,”

many children simply memorise a rule.

But when they physically arrange objects…

they can SEE the order.

They can COMPARE.

They can notice what comes before and after.

They begin to understand that numbers have a relationship with each other.

That’s the foundation of number sense.

And this is especially important for preschoolers and kindergarteners.

Here’s a simple activity you can try at home 👇

Take 5–6 objects of different sizes.

Blocks work beautifully.

Ask your child to arrange them:

Smallest → biggest.

Mix them up.

Then ask:

“Can you arrange them from biggest → smallest?”

Don’t tell them the answer.

Let them move the objects.

Let them make mistakes.

Let them figure out the pattern.

Once this becomes easy, THEN bring in numbers.

Start with just 3 numbers.

For example:

45, 67, 89

Ask:

“Which number is the smallest?”

Then arrange them from smallest → biggest.

Later, reverse it.

This simple progression builds:

✨ Number sense
✨ Comparison skills
✨ Logical thinking
✨ Sequencing skills
✨ Understanding of ascending order
✨ Understanding of descending order

Math for young children doesn't always have to begin with a worksheet.

Sometimes…

it begins with a few objects on a table. ❤️

And once the child understands the ORDER…

the numbers make so much more sense.

Ascending order isn't about memorizing "small to big." It's about learning to compare.

In class, I gave my students 4 objects and placed them in a random order. Their job wasn't to rearrange them immediately. Instead, they had to ask one simple question:

"Which is the smallest?"

Once they found it, they placed it first. Then they repeated the process with the remaining objects until everything was in ascending order.

This simple activity builds observation, comparison, logical thinking, and lays the foundation for ordering numbers with understanding—not guesswork.

The best math lessons don't begin with a worksheet. They begin with curiosity.

How to teach 2-digit numbers that actually make sense. ✨

Before asking children to read numbers like 34 or 58, help them understand what those numbers actually represent.

Using rods (tens) and cubes (ones), children can see that:

34 is 3 tens and 4 ones

58 is 5 tens and 8 ones

Once they understand this, reading 2-digit numbers becomes meaningful instead of memorising random digits.

This strong foundation makes place value, addition, subtraction, and mental maths much easier later on.

That's exactly how we do it in my Sr. KG classes—build understanding first, then speed follows.

This isn't just about reciting numbers.

When children skip count by 10 from numbers like 8 → 18 → 28 → 38..., they're learning that the ones digit stays the same while the tens digit changes.

That understanding becomes the foundation for:
✔️ Faster addition
✔️ Easier subtraction
✔️ Stronger place value
✔️ Better mental maths

This is why I spend time building number sense before introducing bigger concepts. When the foundation is strong, everything that follows becomes easier.

For many children, quarter past and quarter to can be surprisingly confusing. They know the numbers on the clock but often struggle to understand what these phrases actually mean.

After lots of practice and the right strategy, my students have finally mastered them! 🎉
