Today, plzzz *Choose to Respond*
- Must Read to all Parents👇
We were getting ready to go to bed when my 9 year old daughter said in a calm tone, "Mumma tomorrow is my IEO (English Olympiad ) exam".
It was 10.30pm. She was unwell the last week so, we didn't practice and on the weekend I was busy with Storytelling!
Amidst all this, we forgot about the exam. _Now the mother in me wanted to react...I wanted to give my daughter a lecture, maybe like this..._
"What?? You're telling me now, why didn't you remind me earlier. Why did you go to play? Why didn't you study? How can you forget? You're so careless. You can't even remember your exam dates"!
I could have done that and maybe that's the easiest way to express our anxiety or fear or any big emotion we are going through, but *I chose to Respond.*
I said, *"Hmm both mumma and Samu forgot about it. Sometimes we do forget things. Now we can sit for quick 15 minutes and you can ask me any doubts you have."*
She quickly brought her IEO workbook and the next 15 minutes we were engrossed in solving the paper.
*What surprised me was the way the things went smoothly and this morning she had more doubts. She even solved one more paper this morning!*
All this happened because as a parent, *I chose to Respond*.
When children are *anxious or scared or are facing any big emotion, they don't need an adult who is yelling, lecturing or advising.* They need an adult who is able to Guide them to a solution and Stand with them. *That's your responsibility as , 'A Better Parent.'*
Today, I want you to think which are some of the situations where you as a parent, REACT and how can you CHOOSE to RESPOND, effectively....!!

Never talk about your child's teacher with disrespect. The moment the child sees his parents make fun of the calibre or authority of the teachers, the child's listening towards the teachers stops and so does the child's learning.
We at Caterpillar Education wish you an exciting New Year! As always it has been a pleasure to have each and every one of you as part of our page.

Following are the guidelines for helping children understand what is happening around them including:
encouraging children to ask questions.
supporting children to communicate their ideas and emotions through conversations, drawings, writing, dramatic play, creative arts, music and movement.
being a good listener; paying attention to words and feelings; looking for the underlying meaning.
answering children’s questions immediately and directly, with information that is appropriate to their developmental level and experience.
recognizing that there may not be simple answers, but that there are answers that can help children.
avoiding responding to current events and issues in highly emotional or dramatic ways.
providing resources to help children manage fears or uncertainty they might feel or express.
Children are human beings to whom respect is due, superior to us by reason of their innocence and of the greater possibilities of their future.

Free, imaginative play is crucial for normal social, emotional and cognitive development. It makes us better adjusted and less stressed.
Many parents today believe that they are acting in their child's best interest when they swap free play for what they see as valuable learning activities. Some parents may also hesitate to let their sons and daughters play outside unattended, and they may fret about the possibility of scrapes and broken bones that sometimes arise during rambunctious play....Although those parental instincts are natural, protecting children simply defrays the costs to later, when those same children have difficulty in dealing with an unpredictable, complex world....A better 2015 systematic review reported that risky outdoor play - climbing on high playground structures, for instance, or engaging in rough-and-tumble play - was associated with better physical health among kids, not worse, and that it was also linked to greater creativity and resilience. Parents should let children be children - not just because it should be fun to be a child but because denying youth's unfettered joys keeps kids from developing into inquisitive, creative creatures.Big Body Play - the sometimes rowdy, always very physical running, rolling, climbing, tagging, jumping, grabbing, and wrestling that most children love and many adults try to shut down - can and should be an integral part of every early childhood setting.
