ACTUARIES AND CET hint
A leap year is generally a year which is divisible by 4
But it is not true for century years
A century year is one with 00 at the end
For a century year to be a leap year it should be divisible by 400
Hence 1700 1800 1900 are not leap years whereas 1200 1600 2000 are leap years
So the next leap year after 1896 won't be 1900 but 1904
Means a person born on 29th Feb 1896 will celebrate his first birthday after 8 years😐😫 on 29th Feb 1904

log of 1 to any base is always '0'
log of a negative number is not defined
log to the base '1' is also not defined
log 100 to the base 10 is 2
sly, log 1000 to the base 10 is 3
& log 10000 to the base 10 is 4
when "log to the base 10" goes on other side it becomes "10 raised to"
eg. log(to the base 10 of)50 = m can be written as 50 = "10 raised to m"

LOGARITHMS
If the question contains log to any other base than 10, convert it in to 10 and then solve further
remember log 5 = 1 - log 2. to be used whenever log 2 or log 5 any one is given and other to be found out. ( this rule is applicable only if base10 )

calculator tip
to find the 8th root of any number just write the no. on the calculator and press sq.root button 3 times { 1/2 × 1/2 × 1/2 = 1/8 }
similarly to find 16th root of any number, just press the no. on the calculator and press sq.root button 4 times
eg. to find 37^(0.375)
write it as 37^(3/8) = 37^(1/8 × 3) = [ 37^(1/8) ]^3 = 3.873

some hints to find out obvious answers or rather cancel out wrong options
FUTURE VALUE of an annuity is always GREATER than the aggregate of the individual payments
PRESENT VALUE is always slightly less than the aggregate of the individual payments
value of mean median or mode should always lie between the class intervals given ( most prominently, the middle wala class interval)
CORRELATION COEFFICIENT ( r) always lie between -1 & 1
PROBABLITY of any thing always lie between 0 & 1
...Knowing the above hints will atleast mitigate the risk of selecting a wrong answer ( in case u r answering just by fluke)

Limits and continuity
in problems where x tends to infinity, the answer is the coefficients of highest power of x
eg. lim x -> infinity 3x^3 + 4x^2 -6x + 5/ 2x^3 - 8x + 4
the ans to above question will be the coeffecients of highest power of x(cube).
hence the ans is 3/2

STATS
If given in the problem to find an appropriate measure of central tendency, then find the following in the foll cases
MEAN- if no extreme values r present
MEDIAN- if upper and lower class are unbounded. i.e bellow 0 or above 60, etc
MODE- if the data contains same type of repetitive values
HARMONIC MEAN- if average of SPEED of two vehicles is to be found
GEOMETRIC MEAN- unless/ otherwise specified

Annuity
Whenever decision is to be made about two different option, always find the present value of both the option and then compare the amounts.
Present value of the amount paid now ( for acquiring an asset ) is the amount paid itself
