Maria lived with her mother in a small apartment in NYC.

She wasn't too young or too old..
not too short or too tall..
not particularly beautiful nor ugly..
She was just an average woman.

She worked as a secretary at a large company and her life was pretty much boring and mundane.

No one at work paid any attention to her...
Those that did considered her to be as boring as her life was.

One morning, on her way to work, Maria saw a new hat shop that opened down the street.

In a spur of curiosity she walked in!

In the shop was a little girl and her mother,
who came to pick the girl a hat, and another customer who was trying on hats...

Maria also tried on a few hats, until she found one she liked.

She put it on and
It looked nice!

First to notice was the little girl : "Mommy, look how pretty that woman looks with the hat on!"

The mother said:
"Ma'am, I must say, this hat just looks wonderful on you!"
The second buyer also came to look : "Ma'am, you look lovely with that hat on!"

Maria went to the mirror..
She looked at herself..
And for the first time in her adult life..
She liked what she saw.

Smiling, she went to the counter and bought the hat.

As she walked outside a new world revealed itself to her.

She never before noticed the colors of the flowers..
or the scent of the fresh air..

The sound of the cars and the people..
sounded like an harmonious melody..

She walked as if drifting on a cloud..
with a song in her heart..

When she passed by the coffee shop she walked by every morning,
one of the young handsome man called out to her:
"Hey darling..looking good!
Are you new here?
Can I buy you a cup of coffee? "

She smiled shyly and kept walking..
Floating on her cloud...

When she got to the office building, the doorman opened the door and wished her Good Morning..
Never before had he even noticed her!

The people in the elevator asked her the floor she needed and pressed the button for her.

The people at the office, as if seeing her for the first time, flattered her on how lovely she looked today.

The manager asked her out to lunch to talk about how she felt at work!

When this magical workday was over she decided to take a cab home instead of the bus.
As soon as she put her hand up 2 taxis stopped!

She took the first one and sat in the back seat..
Thinking about the miraculous day she had and how her life changed!! Thanks to the new hat!

When she got home, her mom opened the door.
The sight of Maria took her breath away!
"Maria" she said surprised "How beautiful you look! Your eyes are all lit up like when you were a little girl! "

"Yes, mother" Said Maria
"It's all thanks to my new hat, I had the most marvelous day!"

"Maria" said her mother
"What hat??"

*Maria panicked.*

She touched her head and saw that the hat that changed her life was not there... She didn't remember taking it off in the cab..
Or at lunch..
Or at the office..

She thought back to the store where she had bought it..
How she noticed it for the first time..
She put it on..
Paying for it at the cashier's...

And she remembered painfully now..
How she put it on the counter..
To get her purse out to pay..
And how she forgot the hat right there..
On the counter...

Then she walked out to the street..
Hat-less yet glowing!

It wasn't the hat that freed Maria,
it was the quality of her thoughts!

This is interesting info :

1994

The President of India, Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma visited Muscat on an official trip -

When the Air India flight landed, 3 rather unusual incidents took place:

1. The Sultan of Oman never goes to the airport to receive dignitaries of any country - never. But he made an exception this time and went to the airport to receive the President of India!

2. When the flight landed, the Sultan of Oman climbed up the steps and received the President from his seat!

3 . After alighting the flight there was a car with the chauffeur standing. But the Sultan signalled the driver to move and he himself drove the car with President as his passenger!

Later when the reporters questioned the Sultan why he broke so many protocols, the Sultan replied, โ€œI did not go to the airport to receive Mr. Sharma because he was Indiaโ€™s President. I studied in India and learnt so many things, when I was studying in Pune, Mr. Sharma was my Professor - that is why I did this!โ€

*That is the power of being a teacher.*

KNOWING WHEN TO QUIT ...

On May 22, 2019, Mount Everest saw a traffic jam as 300 mountaineers made it to the summit that day, creating a traffic jam, a picture of which went viral the next day. German alpinist, David Gottler, was not among those who summited. He was just 200 meters from the peak when he turned back. David was also among the lucky ones, This spring, the Everest climb saw 21 mountaineers die while attempting to scale the worldโ€™s highest peak โ€“ the highest number to die so far!

Why did he turn back despite being an experienced climber who had already conquered five of the 14 different 8000m peaks on Earth, reaching the summits of Gasherbrum II (8035m), Broad Peak (8051m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Lhotse (8516m) and Makalu (8481m), as well as ascending to 8200m on K2 (8611m)? He took a crucial decision. That day that the risks were way too much to attempt to summit despite being so close.

His experience told him that the crowd trying to reach the peak would make him wait for his turn which could prove fatal as above 26,000 feet you are in the death zone when there isnโ€™t enough oxygen for humans to breathe. The summit of Mount Everest is 8,848 meters (29,029 feet) high, an elevation at which each breath contains only one-third of the oxygen found at sea level. And David was a purist who was climbing without supplemental oxygen.

*At only 200 meters from the peak David took perhaps the most sensible and courageous decision of his life โ€“ to give up the climb and come down.* He didnโ€™t win the mountain that day, but he won over his ego. Only a man without an ego can decide when to give up and when to clench your teeth and push on regardless.

*All our lives we have been constantly told by motivational speakers and others, never to give up and yet here was an experienced mountaineer who simply says that making it to the peak is not all that matters, when even the less experienced ones were summiting that day.*

There were many who went up that day, but in the process exhausted their oxygen supplies while waiting for the queue of other mountaineers to clear up before they could summit. Some of them ran out of oxygen on the way down and died. The true climbers respect the mountains and as Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to set foot on Mount Everest said; โ€œHuman life is far more important than just getting to the top of a mountain.โ€ There are climbers who climb to enjoy the view and not always to plant a flag on the peak. Sometimes in our lives it is more important on how we enjoy living than how โ€œsuccessfulโ€ we are in the eyes of others or even ourselves. Quitting takes a lot of courage and sometimes only the wise can give up even when success seems so near. They always ask themselves: What is the cost of winning? Is it worth to scale the summit.
