Entry 3 : It’s Not Just Music by Rachel Duarte

J.K.Rowling once said, “Words are our most inexhaustible source of magic.” I believe that. I also
believe that the most powerful expression of words, which contain the most magic, are lyrics of
a song. Music is magic and it’s magic that can change the world.
You may brush this off as blissful thinking by a teen whose thoughts are filled with fairytales and
fantasies. But sometimes in life, things find you when you need them to find you. And for me,
more often than not, it’s the lyrics of a song.
We live in a world where everyone is searching for their place. Searching for a purpose, for
something to believe in. Life is hard and sometimes it leaves you lost and confused. And in the
middle of that confusion you discover that a group of people, just like you, picked up random
instruments and did the seemingly impossible of making sense of your world. They created and
gave you something to believe in.
When you’re in the middle of a good life but a hard day, week or month and you’re probably
sitting alone feeling your passion for life fading away, like you have no more fight left in you. You
plug in your earphones and you end up listening to a song you’ve never heard before or maybe
you have, but somehow in that moment, you are listening to it for the first time. You end up
getting this feeling like the artist wrote that very specific song with those carefully chosen lyrics,
just for you. And gradually but at the same time, suddenly, just maybe for five minutes, the world
doesn’t seem like such a scary place. That’s the wonder one song can do.
Music has the unique power to allow you to escape your reality, but not run away from it. A
melody can frown out the white noise of life and help you see the magic around. A song has the
ability to stir a memory and take you back in time to relive an emotion of happiness and joy. A
lyric can comfort you in your sadness and give you a sense of warmth and strength in the face
of your pain.
Everyday we are surrounded by conflict and war. Nation against, religion against religion,
culture against culture. But yet in the face of this diversity, an American can arrange an amazing
mashup of Bollywood, Hindi songs. An Englishman can make a song with an Irish tune. An
Indian can get completely passionate about a Korean band. And millions of people from all over
the world, from different castes, races, religions, cultures, genders can come together for a
Green Day concert, and sing in perfect harmony Bohemian Rhapsody, an all time great song by
an all time great group of artists.

It’s not just music, it’s more than that. It truly has the power to change the world and there's magic in those musical notes. In the words of Kate Voegele in ‘Sandcastles’, “I do believe a
song can heal me. It’s enough for me.”

Entry 2: Magic of Life and Love by Binaisha Fernandes

Dhruvika P.O.V
Ugh…. my ever sweet alarm is just spoiling my beautiful dream.
“Princess, please come down as soon as possible…” Oh my daddy said it. So I think I will be
going because I am a daddy’s girl.
I get up from my bed and move to the window. I push open my curtains to see a beautiful
garden.
Hey, let me introduce myself. Hi, I am Dhruvika Rohit Rai. A little shy, a little bubbly. I don’t mix
around too much so yeah people in high school do call me a snob only because my Dad is a top
businessman.
I hope this day is just like the others. Fingers always crossed.
“Di! Are you ready?” said Khushi.
“Yep, baby girl.” I replied and moved down for breakfast.
My entire family eats breakfast together and leaves for work or high school.
I call “college”, High School, because it just makes me feel a bit younger.

(Later in the day)
“Yo Gals!” My besties Ruhi and Pooja said, while I went with my basic, “Morning Roo and Poo!”
Lectures after lectures. So one free lecture, my ass-like friends thought of passing chits.
D - Dhruvika R - Ruhi P - Pooja
R - Dhru, do you know a guy named Rakesh?
D - Nope! Why do you ask?
P - Because he is spreading rumours that you’re dating him.
D - What! I don’t even know that this Rakesh guy exists!
R - Lets just go and seek help from the authority, kay?
P - Yep.

(At the Superintendent’s Office)
D : Sir, a guy named Rakesh is spreading false rumours.
Superintendent : (in a stern voice) What rumours? Be specific.
R : Sir, the rumour is that they are dating.
P : While they are not.
All this while Rakesh was hearing from behind the door.
D : Sir, please help. Because these rumours are not true.
Superintendent :I shall see into the matter later. I am busy.
P : (slams hand on desk in anger) Sir, we are asking for urgent help.
Superintendent : Ms. Malhotra, this isn’t the way you should behave. I shall be meeting your
parents tomorrow. Am I clear?
P : I don’t care. Solution or Principal, you choose. Kay.
Superintendent : (yells, trying to keep calm) Leave.

Lectures are over, so we left college. All of us went to the parking lot.
D - Ruhi, Pooja, go home. I have to wait, my car will be coming later.
P - No! We are waiting for your car.
R - Yes, I agree with Poo on this.
D - (sternly) But I don’t. So Leave.
Ruhi and Pooja left because they can bear anything but not Dhruvika’s anger.
Yes Dhruvika! When she blasts, she blasts like a bomb (hahahah).
Dhruvika waited and waited. At last, she calls home.
Mom : Dhruvika baby come home soon.
D : But Mom, the car hasn’t arrived.

Mom : Yeah, that’s because it’s going for servicing.
D : Mom, all?
Mom : Two have, and the third one Papa has taken it out of station.
D : I will get a cab then.
Mom : Okay dear, come home safe.

On the way Dhruvika gets kidnapped.
D : Ouch...my head, it hurts.
She opens her eyes slowly, adjusting her pupils to the dark room, with a ray of light popping
from somewhere.
D : Where am I? Hello, is anyone here?
Unknown Voice : (a soft and weak voice replies) Hi, I am here capture. I like the way you are but
don’t worry I shall get you out of here. Hey, by the way, my name is Dayanand. You can call me
Daya.
D : Hey, but why am I here and you too.
Daya : Because my Dad is in the police force, I guess. And yeah very bad people have captured
us. So what’s your name.
D : My name is Dhruvika Rai.
Daya : Oh you’re the girl that Rakesh likes?
D : I guess so, because of the rumours in college.
Daya : Don’t worry, he can’t cause you harm.
D : How, you just said that they are bad.
Daya : My dad is tracking me down so you will be saved too.
Like this, a week passes and then a month. They were harassed cruelly, but they just got used
to it. Their ropes were opened and they tried to escape but no luck.

23rd August yes this very day Daya’s dad rescued the two of them.
Before leaving both of them exchanged numbers.
A week passed, after this incident, but both in their homes couldn’t sleep. Their families thought
it was a nightmare. But it was not.
Daya called Dhruvika.
Daya : Hey I am Daya. If you remember.
D : Of course I do. How are you.
Daya : It sucks. I don’t know the day we were rescued I felt as if I had only half a heart.
D : (in a breath) I love you!
Daya : I love you too. I missed you a lot in this one month, the ups and downs got us close.
D : I agree.
Di, I am so happy.
And their families meet. And all the events took place happily.
Rakesh was going to get hanged because h ha committed many crimes but had never been
caught.
He was the one who blasted trains so its justified.
Daya and Dhruvika had vowed to get married only after that happened. So yea, they got
married.
(end.)

Entry 1: A Time of Wonder by Grace D’mello

“Max! Get down here!” I yelled for my brother to come downstairs for dinner. It had been half an hour since dinner time and Mom was getting pretty frustrated since this boy wasn’t taking the name to come downstairs. What was this boy doing anyway? Studying was out of the option, since he hated books. That included reading as well. But then he could be doing guy stuff as all the other boys but I’m a girl and I don’t know boy stuff (naturally). Well, not naturally… but you get my point.

Looking at the clock, I decided to go check on him itself. No use waiting anymore. I climbed the stairs, two at a time, and when I reached his closed door, I heard voices. Female voices. We don’t have anyone else in this house other than Mom and myself for females, so unless he was having his girlfriend sneaking in then that was a different story.

“You shouldn’t do this everyday. You might risk getting caught.” the girl said.

Everyday? This was something serious.

“Don’t worry! No one will understand that I call you here everyday.” Max replied.

He called her here everyday? This guy was calling a girl to his home everyday so he could spend time with her? Shameless guy. Couldn’t he man up and go to meet his so-called girlfriend?

Don’t they say that curiosity killed the cat? Well it killed me. I couldn’t wait to see who the girl was. So I knocked.

“Max! You in there?” I asked out loud. And I also pushed open the door. My curiosity died at the sight of his room.

No one was there. Max was seated in his bed, playing something on his PSP.
“Aren’t you coming to dinner?” I asked casually not at all hinting that maybe a few seconds ago there might be a girl in his room.

“You called? Oh sorry Sis, I was busy playing games.” He answered innocently. My patience was beginning to wear thin.

“Yea, Mom is getting angrier by the minute. Maybe you should consider spending less time on your video games.” I answered tightly. “Yeah I will. Just playing some games.” He answered.
“So what were you playing?” I asked, trying to pry for information.
“Oh, just some mystery games.”
“Mystery game, huh? What kind?” I asked. This guy only played destruction games.
“Yeah, about that. Just can you like tell me what’s a moonstone?” He asked.

I raised my eyebrow at that. Why was he asking about Moonstones?

“Well, mostly from what I’ve read in books about werewolves. Moonstone is a stone made out of pure ivory. It’s used to call all the packs around the world in one place for something major happening around.”

“Really? And it doesn’t have anything to do with the Moon Goddess, what’s she called-” He started.
“Luna.”
“Yeah, it doesn’t have anything to do with the Luna?” He asked.

“Well, she gives the stone so yea maybe it does.” I answered.
“Do you know anything about the moonstone being in the possession of the Luna’s daughter?” He asked. Was there a daughter of the Great Luna? Never heard of her yet.

“I don’t know Maxy! Maybe the Luna has a daughter. I can’t say. After all it’s a story and fantasies like werewolves and vampires, no matter how much we wish them to be true.” I told my brother.

“Maybe there is a daughter. It just feels like there should be. The Luna, her daughter should be real and known all around the world.” He said, in a nostalgic tone.

Was this guy lovesick? Who knew?
“Well you better come downstairs for dinner.” I told him.

Something glimmered at the corner of my eye. I turned to look at it. Max was busy with his phone.
Just under the books piled on his table, something shone and gleamed. I walked slowly to the table, and moved aside the books. Underneath it, was a stone gleaming, polished and made of ivory. It looked real and it was very attractive. It was the moonstone.

I looked at Max, to the moonstone and to the moon outside his window, looking beautiful in the night sky and thought about the female voice and the daughter of the Luna.

And I looked back at Max’s lovesick face, and I smiled. I walked out of the room.

The daughter of the Luna possessing the moonstone and coming to meet my bro? Great moves, brother! Great moves.
