I had refrained from any congatulatory posts so far due to the situation around us. But just had to say it...so here goes..

Whilst all boards cancelled their 10th examinations, my dear homeschooled son gave his boards in February and scored 91.6%

No school, no coaching classes, no tuition, no teachers..just us!

Dearest Aahaan Phadnis 91.6% and 94% aggregate in Science and Mathematics. For someone who never gave a single exam in his academic life!

You go son!
Soar higher !
There’s nothing you cannot conquer

I will be by your side for as long as you need me
Being your mother has been the biggest achievement of my life

Love you 💕❤️

Happy Mother’s Day 😊

Dear Parents,
Let me post part 2 of Q&A

1) Is this online? - As clarified in Part 1, this is a FB page we maintain to share resources and showcase our own homeschooling journey. So, it is only online
2) Is this a school? - No, this is a page for information and sharing. Not a school. You cannot admit your kids to our school :-)
3) What if I do home schooling for 1 yr and later want to take admission in school? - Yes, you can do that. However, there are some constraints you must remember. The child may not be taken into the next grade if the school policy does not allow. Most schools will want to take an entrance exam and admit post that. But some schools will make the child repeat the grade
4) Can we go back to mainstream schooling after a few years of homeschooling? - Yes and No. You can go back only through some international schools who will admit on the basis of an entrance exam and may take in lower grade. Other boards will not take. The schools require a school leaving certificate or a transfer certificate, If you are able to manage that, your child can be admitted
5) What if homeschooling does not work out for us? As mentioned in earlier points, the child can return to mainstream schooling through various ways. You can easily get admission in an international school (which is expensive) and after a year, taking the school leaving certificate, admit your child in other board schools
6) How does the child enter into mainstream post 10th? - After giving the board exam, the procedure for homeschooled kids and regular schooled kids is the same. They apply to various colleges based on their percentage and choose the streams they wish to follow

More Q&A in Part 3 - How to give board exams, can my child become a doctor, engineer, etc by being homeschooled, are there any cons, etc

Please post queries in comments and will incorporate the same in part 3

Thank you

Dear Parents,
Homeschool India is a page my son and I maintain to share our journey and resources
This is not an educational institution
I get many queries on admission and counseling
My name is Shilpa Parulekar and Aahaan Phadnis is my 14 year old son.
We have been homeschooling for the last 9 years
Please allow me to answer your queries that are often asked on personal chat
1) Why homeschooling? - when my son was in grade 1, I saw that school was taking away his curiosity and passion for learning. Hence we took this call
2) At what age can one start homeschooling? - it's a personal choice. Some children never go to school and some homeschool from grade 10! There's no hard and fast rule
3) How do we begin? - Again, it's a personal choice. Homeschooling is child centric and hence depends on the individual personality of the child. We only did hands on studying by visiting museums, science centers and zoos. We started active learning after grade 5
4) How do you choose the books or syllabus? Since I was his sole teacher and I had studied icse, we chose age appropriate ICSE books. When the books were done, we got the next grade
5) who teaches? In our case, I taught my son all subjects. But some homeschooling families form a co-op and share subject responsibilities. Some hire tutors, others send kids to coaching classes
6) Does that mean a parent has to give up their job? I didn't. I have my own setup and kept working. However, my time was flexible. My husband assisted to some extent.
7) What about socialization? Kids can easily be socialized by their interactions with other kids during play time, sports or other hobby classes
My son had no problem

There are a lot more questions regarding which board, subjects, going back to mainstream schooling, etc
Please post your queries in the comments section and I shall revert soon
Thanks
