Yet again , another headline stating the urgent need for polishing communication skills for doctors .
It is natural to get angry , sad, depressed, frustrated which is then vented out ..
What the respondent does ( or not )) to calm the situation- the words / body language is the deciding factor between an aggressive patient and a cooling down patient / relative ...
As we say in our course “ Remember the patient / relative is angry - not you .”
Also taught on the course - need for networking / digital media and the correct principles to approach a patient .

Today’s headlines in TOI supports the very formation and existence of our company Medcomm Personality Hub -the one and only company dedicated for communication skills and personality development courses for doctors ...
Lack of empathy , inadequate time and poor communication , are things that are frequently mentioned abt doctors ...
We , as doctors, can change this by going through basic soft skills training and dedicated communication workshops ..
Having successfully completed five courses on communication skills for doctors ,
Medcomm is proud to present its 6 th cohort at Lilavati Hospital ...
We endeavour to conduct many more workshops to achieve our goal of “ making a difference “ for the medical community..

Why do Indian Doctors not accept the fact that they need to have basic etiquette, courtesy and communication skills when handling difficult patients?
The is no patient in the world who enters the doctors clinic ( for the first time) in a happy mood. Most are sad, sick, depressed, anxious, worried, tensed or plain stressed.
All these emotions sometimes lead to anger or frustrations. Is it easy for us( Doctors) to handle these without any training?
Even the smallest corporate firm teaches its employees basic etiquettes and courtesy , leave alone a way to talk while dealing with clients.
Medical field being synonymous with patient - doctor relationship has never taught the medical school students , the basic mannerisms of dealing with patients ( greeting/ respecting privacy, understanding emotions, dealing tactfully with these emotions) .
Yet , most doctors, don't feel the need to train to deal with the emotions of these patients ... Is that not the basic need ...Would you not just want to talk or let someone understand you when you are running through a battery of emotions...... Yet, whenever there is a course on Communication skills for doctors, most of them don't even acknowledge the need for such courses!!!!
As the CEO of the biggest private equity and investment firm put it yesterday( over a cup of tea) : " The Person has to have the humility and understanding to accept the fact that each one of us needs to be trained in these skills ( pertaining to their profession) and AT EACH level of heirarchy"

Long overdue - needed these changes for a long time --hats off to Dr Panda..
Not against referring doctors earning but against sending patients to doctors who give u the maximum cut
It should always be a patient centred approach , offering him / her the best treatment .

One more article stating that communication skills are extremely important to all Indian patients . Most of our doctors and medical courses neglect the training aspect of communication; which is compulsoryin UK< Europe and USA.
So, why should we not get trained or expect some coaching....
