Stories are a window to the world of wonder and ‘Read Aloud ‘ is an integral part of this program. Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents and teachers can do with children. Reading aloud builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluent, expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about. Ms Gopika our trainer introduced the ECCEd learners with child friendly books and also helped them understand how to use hand movements, voice modulation while reading stories to the kids.

Knowledge about the sounds letters make open up a magical world to the children. Slowly and steadily the kids learn to connect the sounds with each other, weaving a world of words and hence explore reading. This workshop enlightened our ECCEd participants on application and utility of Phonics in an early year classroom.

A preschool would be incomplete without integration with music and movement. How important is singing, rhymes, rhythm and how it helps in development of auditory and listening skill were the attributes discussed during this workshop. Loads of engrossing activities and exercises kept the learners on toes. Each of them went home singing and humming happy tunes and looking for world to use this shared knowledge in a class set up with children.

As a teacher it is important to know how to use resources at hand and make something creative out of it. This way, children will learn to take care of their surroundings and learn to reduce wastage. Puppets, music instruments can be made by using old bottles and utensils, these things were taught in the classroom so that our learners instil the values of recycling, reusing our resources in the minds of children.

A Pre-primary or a preschool teacher must give the learners a developmentally appropriate art experience. This workshop touched upon how an open-ended program of experiencing & exploring techniques, tools and materials can benefit children in different ways. Not only does it help in fine motor skills or eye-hand coordination but also it nurtures their imagination and creativity. Our trainees enjoyed the hands-on experience and training provided by the workshop leader and went back with a lot of food for thought in excelling as compassionate nurturers.
