From Mumbai to Xiamen: A Transformational Journey at the 2026 China Sports Expo
Our first international business trip to the 2026 China Sports Expo at the Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Centre (20th–24th May 2026) was more than just a visit—it was a powerful learning experience that broadened our vision for global sports.
We began our journey on 19th May, flying from Mumbai to Xiamen via Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific, and landed on 20th May at 11:05 AM. Our first lesson came quickly—navigating local transport. A private taxi from the airport turned out to be expensive and inconvenient, teaching us the importance of pre-booking online travel in a new country.
We checked into the Sheraton Xiamen Hotel, a stunning property offering breathtaking views from the 22nd floor. After a long journey, the first day was dedicated to rest and exploring the surroundings.
Despite being in a foreign land, food was never a concern. Carrying ready-to-eat Indian vegetarian meals like MTR and Gits packs, along with Theplas, Puranpoli, Chivda, and snacks, kept us energized throughout the trip.
Xiamen, a coastal city in Fujian Province, felt surprisingly familiar—its humid climate and intermittent rain reminded us of Mumbai.
The city’s metro system was efficient, but communication required patience, with Google Translate becoming our constant companion in bridging the language gap.
From 21st to 23rd May, we immersed ourselves in the grand China Sports Expo—an enormous platform with over 2000 stalls spread across multiple halls. The scale and diversity were remarkable, covering sports infrastructure, gym equipment, flooring, wellness products, elite sports gear, and advanced machinery.
What stood out most was China’s discipline, technological advancement, and forward-thinking youth. With nearly 76% of the population in the working age group, there is a visible drive to dominate global markets. The widespread use of e-vehicles, cycling culture, and green infrastructure reflected a strong commitment to sustainability.
Equally inspiring was their sports culture—children under 15 were actively engaged in sports like football, badminton, table tennis, and athletics, with schools providing world-class infrastructure and encouragement from an early age. And this is probably the very reason why China consistently wins one of the highest numbers of medals at the Olympics—thanks to its early talent identification, structured training systems, and long-term national focus on sports excellence.
Beyond business, we explored the cultural beauty of Xiamen:
* Gulangyu Island – a UNESCO heritage site known for its colonial charm and scenic landscapes
* Nanputuo Temple – a serene spiritual destination nestled near lush hills
* Zhongshan Road – a vibrant pedestrian street buzzing with shopping, food, and nightlife, reminiscent of Mumbai’s Marine Drive and South Bombay
We returned to Mumbai on the morning of 25th May—with not just memories, but a renewed purpose.
This journey strengthened our belief: India’s youth have immense potential, and with the right guidance, exposure, and mindset, they can thrive on the global sports stage.
At MaxNyan, we are now even more committed to shaping this vision—empowering young talent to dream bigger, aim higher, and compete globally.
