Shiva Subramaniam:
Shiva is the co-founder of Biomimicry Compass, an IIT Madras incubated company, that enables innovation using nature’s designs and strategies. He is an accredited coach (ICF - PCC) and facilitator, specialising in innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, and cross-cultural skills. In his career spanning over four decades, he has worked with a multitude of organizations, teams, and individuals, helping them with new ways of thinking, exploring connections, and expanding their vision.

Dhananjay is passionate about simplifying sustainability and empowering individuals and organizations for a sustainable future. With expertise in Corporate Sustainability, Systems Thinking, and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), he strives to create impactful change through education and capacity building. This year’s event, led by the passionate learners of the TED Youth Club 2024, was filled with transformative messages, innovative ideas, and compelling narratives.Through a series of engaging talks, the A level learners of JBCN Borivali shared insights that challenged conventional thinking, spark curiosity, and inspire action. The underlying theme that ran through every presentation was that the world is constantly evolving, and in order to keep up, we must be willing to think differently. We must be willing to step outside the familiar, to challenge our assumptions, and to embrace the unknown. The audience was asked, in various ways, to reconsider what they know, to question what they do, and to imagine a world that doesn’t just work as it is, but that works better—a world where innovation, progress, and collaboration take center stage.

I was reminded of how every great shift in history began with a single idea—a thought that challenged conventional wisdom, a spark of curiosity that led to an unwavering pursuit of something better. I experienced that spark in the participants and I hope we carry it forward, to fuel it with our collective actions, and to turn it into a force that shapes the world in new and unexpected ways. Let’s go forward from here, not just inspired, but determined. Determined to push the boundaries of what we know, to inspire others with our ideas, and to take that next step—however big or small—towards a future that is not just different, but better.

The Inner Development Goals (IDG) were established to guide our collective efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While the IDG initiative is committed towards fostering inner development towards more sustainable futures through collective abilities to face and work effectively with the complex challenge, let’s together explore how we can step into our agency to truly foster systemic sustainable development.

In this exploratory talk, we will inquire into two fundamental aspects of the IDGs:

1) “The Self” vs interconnectedness of all of life as one living Whole

2) the need to bring in more compassion, love, and energy as driving forces for effective leadership. Without these essential elements, our vision for a sustainable future may remain unfulfilled.

Together, we can explore a path forward—one that kindles compassion through the practices of presence, and deeply listening to our inner voice. By doing so, we can cultivate a leadership style grounded in empathy, inclusivity, and compassion.
