Mumbai’s mangroves have just found a host of young ambassadors who arrived on the scene with researched scientific pilots to tackle the crisis that this fragile ecosystem faces.
Middle schoolers across Mumbai animatedly presented their working models at MuSo SPARK the Festival of Innivation at the Museum of Solutions Mumbai.
7 schools under The Mangrove Life project led by Pikiji Learning Australia and The Pomegranate Workshop Mumbai, supported by The Australian Consulate General Mumbai, showcased filtration systems, working models of river cleanups and even sensor based alerts of photographs of mangroves to foreground community action! Each pilot showed promise of scalability and wowed museum visitors at the pilot stations. Leading Education NGOs - Teach for India, Muktangan, iTeach, Akanksha, Udaan India Foundation and Sampoorna Shiksha alongwith Fazlani L’academie Globale were part of this first of its kind student innovation to conserve the city’s fragile mangrove ecosystem.

The Mangrove Life is back! A program of Inquiry to Innovation themed on the very fragile mangrove ecosystem of Mumbai. 7 participating schools have embarked on a journey led by scientists Alex and Carlie Ring from , Australia and anchored by The Pomegranate Workshop in Mumbai.
The students will reveal their inquiry and innovations to conserve mamgroves at the MuSo SPARK Festival of Innovation at the Mumbai on 7th February.
This program is supported by the Australian Consulate General Mumbai.
A special shout out to Godrej Mangroves and facilitators Hemant Karkhanis and Shambhavi Chavan for leading the students on an enriching mangrove field trip!

📣In yet another first for The Pomegranate Workshop, in January 2024, together with Global School Exchange, UK, we brought together middle schoolers across continents to jointly explore their local ecosystems and conservation in live online classrooms.
🇬🇧🇮🇳70 students in two schools Fazlani L'academie Globale (FLAG), Mumbai and Mountbatten School, Hampshire UK came together in live classroom exchanges where they presented their respective cities, environments and concerns. Through a facilitated process both schools started working on video campaigns to conserve local ecosystems which affect climate. Students of FLAG covered a range of issues from deforestation in the Western Ghats to the rampant demolitions and construction in Mumbai city.
Students of Mountbatten focussed on the felling of trees in the ancients woodlands which surround their school.
🌿As landscapes and terrains unfolded on the screens through original student films, students on both sides shared extensive comments and feedback on what they were seeing. Picking up significant skills from one another, they made astute observations on shooting and editing and story telling as well for their campaign efficacy.
The result is an impactful trans continental campaign for conservation!
