The UDAAN project (https://www.udaanproject.org/) from IIT Bombay, led by Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan, has been providing an end-to-end Machine Translation Framework for translation of technical content into Indian languages and is being widely used. Aicte India, in its announcement on 27-12-2022, has specifically acknowledged this contribution at https://www.aicte-india.org/content/aicte-acknowledgement-udaan-team-iit-bombay-technical-book-writing-scheme.
"The UDAAN Team helped immensely in speeding up the process of translation of technical books. The strong foundation of their data-efficient machine learning approaches organized at http://decile.org has immensely helped this platform. Thus their work is based on continuous research resulting in faster turn-around time for correcting errors and fine-tuning the translation models in a low-resource setting. Vikas Chandra Rastogi, IIT Bombay’s Director Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri and Dean (R&D) Prof. Milind Atrey.

After a MOU signing ceremony today, IIT Bombay’s Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan made a presentation to all the Vice Chancellors of Universities in Maharashtra, explaining how the UDAAN platform (https://www.udaanproject.org/) is an end-to-end Machine Translation framework that includes extensive use of lexical resources and a post-editing platform. The ecosystem enables rapid translation of documents for rapidly bringing technical works into publishable state. The work is based on continuous research work resulting in faster turn-around time for correcting errors and fine-tuning the translation models in low-resource settings.
