Weโ€™re excited to announce the addition of a new Group Starter Panel Equipment to the Automation, Pneumatics & Hydraulics Laboratory at Dockendale Training Academy, established in partnership with Vikings Maritime Training Institute.

The new equipment was officially inaugurated on ๐Ÿ ๐’๐ž๐ฉ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” by ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐‹๐ฎ๐ณ๐š๐š๐ง ๐‹๐š๐›๐ฎ๐ฌ๐œ๐ก๐š๐ ๐ง๐ž, ๐‡๐ž๐š๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐’๐ก๐ข๐ฉ๐จ๐ฐ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐…๐ข๐ง๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž, ๐Œ๐”๐‘ ๐†๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฉ, marking another step forward in strengthening the practical learning experience.

Featuring Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), Direct-On-Line (D.O.L.), Star/Delta and Soft Starter systems, along with a battery charger, electrical test equipment, boiler firing sequence trainer and motor starter troubleshooting trainer, the new setup further enhances practical, hands-on training in electrical, automation and engineering systems.

During her visit, Ms. Luzaan also explored the wider facility and took the helm of our ๐…๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐Œ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ ๐ž ๐’๐ข๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ซ, experiencing the vessel steering controls firsthand.

The discussion highlighted the importance of combining classroom learning, simulator-based training, and onboard assessments to develop seafarers who are prepared for real-world operational challenges.

Mr. Malik also emphasised that effective maritime training must go beyond technical competencies, with equal focus on behavioural skills, situational awareness, and safety culture โ€“ essential elements for sound decision-making onboard.

As the maritime industry continues to embrace alternative fuels, Artificial Intelligence, and digital tools, continuous learning and adaptability will remain key to preparing seafarers for the evolving demands of the industry.

Acting as one coordinated team, participants navigated a dynamic emergency scenario that reinforced the importance of clear communication, situational awareness, and coordinated decision-making between the bridge and engine room.

By combining Bridge and Engine Resource Management, participants experienced first-hand how teamwork is just as critical as technical competence.

The cadets participated in an engaging and enriching programme designed to strengthen their foundation as they begin their seafaring journey. The sessions offered valuable insights on both professional and personal development, led by experienced professionals.

The programme included insightful sessions by ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐๐ก๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ ๐’๐ก๐š๐ก, Finance Director, who spoke on financial literacy, and ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐‘๐š๐ ๐ก๐š๐ฏ ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฏ๐ž๐๐ข, Senior Manager โ€“ Crew Quality Assurance & Strategy, who shared perspectives on the values, challenges, and realities of life in the Merchant Navy. This was followed by a session on seafarersโ€™ mental well-being by ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐๐ข๐ซ๐š๐ฅ๐ข ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฌ๐š๐ข.

A special address was also delivered by ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐•๐ข๐ค๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐†๐ฎ๐ฌ๐š๐ข๐ง, CEO, ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐’๐ก๐š๐ง๐ž ๐๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐จ, DPA, and ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐€๐ฌ๐ž๐ž๐ฆ ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ค, Principal, who shared their guidance, encouragement, and best wishes with the cadets as they take their first steps into the maritime industry.
