Finland International School Race Course, Mumbai

Our Grade 3 and 4 learners engaged in a provocation to kickstart their inquiry into Science in Action. The students took on the role of “Nature’s Detectives” in an interactive, game-based activity where they identified everyday objects as natural or man-made and classified them into solids, liquids, and gases.

Later, the classroom was arranged into interactive stations, each allowing learners to inquire, observe, and explore:

1) Flashlight and diamond-shaped crystal – to explore how light passes, bends, and reflects.
2) Toy bus – to understand push, pull, and the effect of force.
3) Rubber bands with a tissue box – to experience vibration and sound.
4) Listening to heartbeat sounds – to connect with the human body and how organs function.

Through observation and discussion, they also shared examples from their surroundings, which encouraged them to make real-life connections. This provocation not only sparked curiosity but also set a strong foundation for our upcoming explorations about Science

The learners were highly enthusiastic and demonstrated keen engagement throughout the activity.

It was the first edition of the Inter‑School Friendly Cricket League, hosted by DSB International School in collaboration with ACE Sports Edu organised by GIFA Sports. Our team participated in the Juniors category, which included teams from JBCN Parel, Edubridge International School, DSB School, and Lodha Oakwood School.

Our juniors put up a spirited performance and finished as Runners‑Up, facing JBCN Parel in the final with a target of 36 runs in 6 overs. Being our very first inter‑school cricket tournament, the team displayed impressive teamwork, strategies, and cricketing skills, which earned them a well‑deserved second place in the Juniors category.

Thea from Grade 4 Sparks, demonstrated true ownership of her learning. Driven by her curiosity, she extended our discussion on the states of matter by conducting independent research on plasma.

Exercising her voice and choice, Thea decided to share her findings with her peers. She created an anchor chart(displayed in class) to communicate her research and, showcasing her strong self-management skills, designed a sorting game on solids, liquids, and gases for the class.
This experience not only deepened Thea’s own understanding but also created a joyful learning opportunity for her classmates. I encourage you to watch the video to see how learner agency came alive in our classroom today.
