This Independence Day, as India turns 79, we’re thinking about a different kind of freedom.

For young people, independence isn’t just a date on the calendar. It’s access, to skills, to opportunity, to standing on your own two feet.

At Skill Shakti Community, this is what we coach. We design and deliver InclusivEd, our Certificate and Diploma Program in Applied Life and Career Skills, accredited by HSNC University, so neurodiverse adults learn to earn and build independent income.

Because freedom isn’t handed to you. It’s earned.

An amazing visit by Covid frontline doctor Amalesh Honnekeri to Skill Shakti class today, to share his deep experiences. ( Thanks ! 🙏)

Doc shared that his coping mechanism to deal with what he saw in hospital at the height of the pandemic was to transmute it into free verse poems, now published in a book, “Untitled: Stories of Catharsis” ( available on Amazon).

Equally amazing: the beautiful way in which our students interpreted his poem. Check it out here!

Ah, there’s so much poetry in the voice of persons with neurodiversity.
We only need to listen.

How to work together as a virtual team? How to motivate and support one another?

Building team spirit is an essential employability pre-requisite for our trainee interns. They are getting ready to join a WFH workforce or a physical office. Or being productive in whatever way that aligns best with their core strengths and interests.

It’s amazing how our neurodiverse students have bonded together and learnt these valuable skills on the Skill Shakti virtual platform all through the pandemic! We run life and career building skills, and executive functioning skills classes daily M-F, 9am-1pm in a fun, inclusive peer community of adults with neurodiversity.

Have no doubt: Skill Shakti student Ramnath Ramesh is going to be the change he wants to see.

Our learners always AMAZE us with their trenchant vision. Ramnath wants to visit Parliament soon, get sworn in and ensure smoother business in the House. ( he’s an avid watcher of Parliament news on TV.)

In Skill Shakti’s daily online skill building sessions for adults with neurodiversity, we teach goal-setting, vision boarding and self-advocacy among other things, in a fun, inclusive community.

“What makes you happy?” was today’s question in our online class.

In response, Skill Shakti student Ramnath Ramesh drew this exquisite rendering of India’s Parliament House, which he aspires to enter one day, as an elected politician and also as a television news anchor.

The Indian Parliament is an institution that proudly includes all, representing our magnificent diversity as a nation. We look forward to seeing Ramnath there soon.
