What if the best classroom for a child… sometimes doesn’t look like a classroom?

A toy stall may look like play.

But watch closely.

A child running a small stall is constantly making decisions:

What should I say?
How do I explain this differently?
What if they say no?
How much money should I return?
Who do I attend to first?
Why didn't that person understand me?

And there is something fascinating happening underneath all of this.

The child isn't thinking:

“Today I am learning communication.”

“Today I am learning mathematics.”

“Today I am developing problem-solving skills.”

He is simply trying to make something work.

And that changes the quality of learning.

Because when knowledge has a purpose, children have a reason to remember it.

When there is a real problem, they have a reason to think.

When something doesn't work, they have a reason to try again.

This is why learning by doing can be so powerful.

It doesn't mean books, memorisation or academics don't matter.

It means we shouldn't make them the only place where learning happens.

Children also need opportunities to use what they know, make mistakes, face consequences, communicate with different people, solve unexpected problems and try again.

That's where practical learning becomes real.

And honestly, this is one of the things I love about homeschooling and child-led learning.

You start noticing that learning isn't confined to a lesson plan.

A market can become a math class.
A kitchen can become a science lab.
A garden can become a biology lesson.
A toy stall can become a crash course in life.

The goal isn't to turn childhood into productivity.

Quite the opposite.

It's to give children enough real experiences that learning can happen naturally inside childhood.

Because sometimes the question shouldn't be:

“What should I teach my child today?”

Maybe it should be:

“What can I let my child try today?”

That one question can completely change the way we look at education. 🌱

✋️ This is important.

Parents need to hear that homeschooling isn't automatically better.

Because removing a child from school doesn't automatically create a good education.

A poorly designed homeschool environment can create its own problems.

No structure can become chaos.
Too much freedom can become avoidance.
Too much parental involvement can become dependence.
Too little social exposure can become isolation.
A parent who is constantly worried about academics can turn every moment into a lesson.

And sometimes, homeschooling becomes nothing more than school at home without the school building.

Worksheets.
Books.
Online classes.
Tests.
Targets.
“Tumne aaj kya padha?”

Same pressure. Different location.

And then there is another problem we don't talk about enough.

The parent.

If you haven't thought about your own lifestyle, patience, time, finances, relationships, work, responsibilities and expectations, homeschooling can become exhausting very quickly.

Your child doesn't just live inside your homeschool philosophy.

They live inside your actual life.

And honestly, some families may discover that homeschooling isn't the right choice for them.

That's okay.

I don't believe every child should be homeschooled.

I believe parents should make an intentional education choice instead of blindly following either side.

School isn't automatically bad.

Homeschooling isn't automatically good.

Both can work beautifully.
Both can go terribly wrong.

The question isn't:

“Which one is better?”

The better question is:

“What kind of environment are we actually capable of creating for our child?”

Because homeschooling isn't about removing school.

It's about taking responsibility for the environment in which your child grows, learns, plays, thinks and becomes themselves.

And that responsibility is much bigger than just choosing a curriculum.

This is the part of homeschooling we need to talk about more.

Every night, after the kids sleep…

Akansha and I end up having the same conversation.

“Kya hum unhe sahi cheezon ke liye prepare kar rahe hain?”

Not marks.

Not homework.

Not report cards.

Real life.

Because the truth is…

None of us knows what the world will look like 10 or 15 years from now.

But we do know one thing.

A child who knows how to think…
How to adapt…
How to learn on their own…
How to communicate…
How to solve problems…

…will always have an advantage over a child who only knows how to reproduce answers.

This isn’t about schools.

This isn’t about homeschooling.

This is about a question every parent should ask themselves:

Are we preparing our children for the next exam… or for the next 50 years?

We don’t have all the answers.

We’re figuring it out as parents, one day at a time.

And maybe that’s the conversation education actually needs.

When I first started homeschooling, I made a mistake. 😅

I thought my job was to teach more.

📚 Books
📝 Worksheets
🎯 Activities
💻 Coding
➕ Maths

And somewhere in my head was this invisible scoreboard…

“Aaj kitna karwaya?”
“Kahin mera kid school se peeche toh nahi ja raha?” 😬

Honestly, I was trying too hard to prove that homeschooling was working.

Then one day, I stopped.

I watched my kid get completely curious about something that wasn’t even on my plan.

And instead of pulling him back, I thought…

“What if I just follow this?” 🤔

That one decision changed the way I homeschool.

I started noticing 👀

What makes him curious.
What holds his attention.
How he naturally learns.
What makes him ask 20 questions.
What makes him come alive. ✨

I stopped asking:

“What should I teach him today?”

And started asking:

“What can I learn about him today?”

And I realised…

Your biggest advantage in homeschooling isn’t your curriculum.

It’s TIME. ⏳

Time to know your child.

So if you’re in your first year of homeschooling, don’t spend it trying to prove yourself.

Spend it getting to know your kid as a learner. ❤️

And please…

🏡 Don’t turn your home into another school.

Let it be home.

Because the habit of wonder you build this year may matter more than the lessons you complete.

Agar aap chahte ho ki aapka baccha genuinely smart bane… marks se nahi, dimag se — toh shayad aapko ye 5 cheezein sunni chahiye. 🧠

Aur interesting baat?

Inmein se kisi ke liye expensive school, tuition, worksheets ya fancy activity kit ki zarurat nahi hai.

1️⃣ Unhe BORING hone do.

Har empty minute ko activity se fill karna zaroori nahi hai.

Jab baccha bore hota hai, brain khud kuch dhoondhna shuru karta hai.

Kuch banana.
Kuch sochna.
Kuch poochna.
Kuch imagine karna.

Boredom is not the enemy of creativity.
Sometimes, it is where creativity begins.

2️⃣ Unke sawaalon ko seriously lo.

“Papa ye kyun hota hai?”
“Mumma aasman blue kyun hai?”
“Ye kaise kaam karta hai?”

Ye interruptions nahi hain.

Ye learning ke golden moments hain.

Har sawaal ka answer aapko nahi pata ho, koi problem nahi.

Kabhi-kabhi best answer hota hai:

“Mujhe bhi nahi pata. Chalo saath mein pata karte hain.”

3️⃣ Unhe REAL kaam karne do.

Sabzi kaatne mein help karna.
Paisa count karna.
Shopping list banana.
Ghar ka samaan organise karna.
Kisi cheez ko repair karte waqt observe karna.

Bacche sirf books se intelligence develop nahi karte.

Real life is one giant laboratory.

4️⃣ Unke saath padho, unhe force mat karo.

Agar ghar mein koi reading nahi karta aur bacche ko roz bola jaata hai,

“Jaao, book padho.”

Toh reading ek task ban jaati hai.

Lekin jab baccha aapko casually book, newspaper, magazine ya kuch interesting padhte hue dekhta hai…

reading slowly becomes part of the culture of the home.

5️⃣ Unhe fail hone do.

Har mistake ko immediately fix mat karo.

Har difficult situation mein rescue mat karo.

Har haar ko avoid mat karo.

Bacche ko kabhi-kabhi struggle karne do.

Because failure isn’t the opposite of learning.
Failure is part of learning.

Aaj ka chhota failure kal ki resilience ban sakta hai.

And honestly, smart parenting ka matlab har problem bacche ke liye solve karna nahi hai.

Kabhi-kabhi smart parenting ka matlab hai:

bacche ko problem solve karne dena.
