ā˜‘InĀ engineeringĀ andĀ materials science, aĀ stress–strain curveĀ for a material gives the relationship betweenĀ stressĀ andĀ strain. It is obtained by gradually applyingĀ loadĀ to a test coupon and measuring theĀ deformation, from which the stress and strain can be determined (seeĀ tensile testing). These curves reveal many of theĀ properties of a material, such as theĀ Young's modulus, theĀ yield strengthĀ and theĀ ultimate tensile strength.
