COVID-19 High-Risk Comorbidities Expanded

The list of medical comorbidities associated with high risk for severe COVID-19 now includes moderate to severe asthma, diabetes, and substance use disorders, according to the CDC.

The CDC’s latest list consists of 17 conditions or groups of related conditions that may increase patients’ risk of developing severe outcomes of COVID-19, the CDC said on a web page intended for the general public. (Shown here on this infographic.)

On a separate page, the CDC defines severe outcomes “as hospitalization, admission to the intensive care unit, intubation or mechanical ventilation, or death.”

Asthma is included in the newly expanded list with other chronic lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystic fibrosis; the list’s heart disease entry covers coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and hypertension, the CDC said.

There are countless number of spices that we use and eat everyday. Making our dishes so delicious but yet we know so little about them. This story is about the Cinnamon spice.

The warm aroma of cinnamon spice is what comes to mind when we think of it. Thoughts of delicious treats of cinnamon rolls, pastries, cinnamon bread may quite likely follow! 🥧🍰 Team Zizira set out to explore, looking for organically grown cinnamon in the hills of Meghalaya.

Zizira explorers found out about organic cinnamon in Mawtnum village and visited the farmers there, returning better informed about the uniqueness of Meghalaya Cinnamon.

Cinnamon spice in Meghalaya is grown naturally without the use of any artificial chemicals. The farmers from Mawtnum village use age-old traditional farming methods to cultivate them.
Using the conventional seed propagation method cinnamon is usually planted on a large scale.
Healthy seedlings are planted after the monsoon rains🌧️. In three years’ time the saplings will be mature trees, ready to be harvested (or peeled) for cinnamon and every six months thereafter.
The barks are peeled after the rains as it is easier to do so. The wetness helps and makes it easier to peel.
The peeled barks are set to dry in the sun 🌞. The drying process causes the barks to curl into quills, which are then cut and sold as cinnamon sticks.

This is our cinnamon story, go ahead and share your stories of cinnamon in the comments below. 😃

The eye is the second most complex organ in the human body. It has over 2 million moving parts and if it was a digital camera, it is believed it would have 576 megapixels 👁👁

We are thrilled to share this 3D animated cross section of an eye, which is a small part of an educational project we have done, along with some interesting facts regarding the complexity and beauty of the eye:

▪︎ An eye contains 107 million cells which are all light sensitive.

▪︎The is the only living cell in our bodies that is not directly connected to a blood vessel.

▪︎The is made of 10 layers, that contain nerve cells, blood vessels and photoreceptors called rods and cones.

▪︎The sclera forms more than 80% of the surface area of the eyeball.

▪︎The eye muscles are the most active muscles in the human body.

▪︎The human eye can differentiate around 10 million different colors.

▪︎The only cells that survive from the time we are born until death are in our eyes.

▪︎While our ears and nose grow through our entire life, our eyes remain the same size.

In current scenario, various heterocycles have come up exhibiting crucial role in various medicinal agents which are valuable for mankind. Out of diverse range of heterocycle, quinoline scaffold have been proved to play an important role in broad range of biological activities. Several drug molecules bearing a quinoline molecule with useful anticancer, antibacterial activities etc have been marketed such as chloroquine, saquinavir etc. Owing to their broad spectrum biological role, various synthetic strategies such as Skraup reaction, Combes reaction etc. has been developed by the researchers all over the world. But still the synthetic methods are associated with various limitations as formation of side products, use of expensive metal catalysts. Thus, several efforts to develop an efficient and cost effective synthetic protocol are still carried out till date. Moreover, quinoline scaffold displays remarkable antiviral activity.
