We were honoured to host Mr. Rahul Mithal, Chairman and Managing Director of RITES Limited, at the Jio Institute campus, where he engaged with the PGP students on “The Audacity to Dream.”

Drawing from his 36-year journey in railway and transport infrastructure, he shared powerful lessons on dreaming big, leading with integrity, and embracing courage in the face of challenges. He emphasised that as you grow up the corporate ladder, it’s essential to expand both your width and depth of perspective, and reassured students that organisations stand by those who take principled stands. His insights left students reflecting on what it truly means to lead, with both strength and empathy.

The visit concluded with an engaging interaction with faculty and administrative teams, where he took a keen interest in understanding the institute’s vision, academic approach, and growth journey, making it a truly enriching experience for the entire Jio Institute community.

Building a fusion power plant requires balancing multiple scientific and engineering factors simultaneously. In this session, Dr. Deshpande will outline how India can approach the development of a DEMO fusion reactor through structured, staged advancements—bridging theory, design, and real-world implementation.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:
• How reactor optimization is influenced by multiple competing design constraints
• The role of critical parameters like current-drive efficiency and plasma beta in achieving fusion gain
• A staged pathway from test reactors to pilot plants for electricity generation
• Practical design pathways and action plans involving R&D, prototyping, and testing
