I had the privilege of conducting a LinkedIn Optimization Workshop for the vibrant and driven students of Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (SSLA) as part of their Career Connect 2025 initiative.

The focus was clear — helping students build digital credibility, understand how to show up with intention, and feel more confident about using LinkedIn as a platform for visibility, connection, and growth. What made it truly special was the level of engagement and curiosity in the virtual room — thoughtful questions, live profile edits, and an eagerness to learn and apply.

The session saw 60+ participants — the highest turnout for any online event hosted by the Career Cell. That, in itself, speaks volumes about the interest and importance students are placing on digital presence in today’s career landscape.

In today's fast-paced digital era, the first rule of communication is respect. 🌐✨

This principle guided my recent interaction at the renowned Times of India, where I had the privilege of facilitating a training session titled 'Netiquettes - New Norms for Online Communication.'

This training, designed for enthusiastic Graduate Engineering Trainees ( ), emphasized the importance of etiquette in both virtual and in-person spaces. We unpacked strategies to respect differing opinions, maintain professionalism, and create a positive digital footprint during and beyond.

The goal was not merely about polishing online manners, but about promoting a culture where utmost respect is given when communicating digitally, ushering in a safer and more inclusive cyber space.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 😇😇😇

Being authentic means trading perfection for honesty.

A client came to me, completely distressed by his previous agency. They had promised 30 leads in 30 days—or money back! 🎯 With the best intentions, they set out to deliver but failed miserably. After endless back-and-forths, the month ended with just 3 leads.

What went wrong? 🤔 Not a lack of authenticity but a failure to be realistic. They tried to be superheroes, setting themselves up for disaster.

The lesson? Authenticity isn’t just about being honest—it’s being real without apology. 💡 Before promising miracles, understand your abilities and, more importantly, your client’s business, needs, and strategy. 📊

Throughout this journey, I have identified eight essential lessons regarding the importance of authenticity in sales and marketing:

1️⃣ 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝘆 – It is imperative to possess a clear understanding of your core values and to convey these values effectively to your audience.

2️⃣ 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 – Dedicating the necessary time to comprehend the needs and preferences of your target audience allows for a more tailored and effective marketing approach.

3️⃣ 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 – It is vital to establish authentic relationships rather than engage in superficial, short-term interactions that lack depth.

4️⃣ 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 – Being forthright about both the strengths and weaknesses of your product or service fosters an environment of trust among your clients and prospects.

5️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 - Ensure you take the buy- in from your client. It is not their plan or your plan. "Its our plan"

6️⃣ 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘀 – Support your proposals with compelling data and thorough research, thereby avoiding the pitfalls of overstated promises without merit.

7️⃣ 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 & 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 – Active engagement in conversations, coupled with a sincere willingness to listen to customer feedback, enhances your relationship with your audience.

8️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 – Maintain an open-minded approach towards learning and adaptation, recognizing that both the market landscape and customer needs are in constant flux.

The journey toward cultivating meaningful connections and implementing effective marketing strategies is inherently paved with honesty and authentic interactions.

I do.. every day God chooses to speak to us through different channels. I am lucky to have got the opportunity to learn with my latest batch of PG MBA students at SASMIRA's Business School

This term I got an opportunity to teach them Services Marketing and it was such a wonderful experience. Learning with a combination of fun and young open inquisitive minds was just the message from God that there is so much to explore and achieve!

I am grateful to the students for making the sessions so interactive and for all the buzz and excitement. Services marketing is a unique subject and exploring dimensions different to the vanilla product marketing.

From role plays to presentations ! I amazed with the promise of the next generation professionals in crafting!

India is the second largest consumer of gold !! 😯 Well actually I am not surprised .... I am a Keralite and I know exactly who these Indians live ..LOL but that is not the reason I want to share about the fact that- all that glitters is gold - that was just to catch the attention. ... Now that I have your attention, here is my take on how to ensure we understand how to differentiate between real gold in the digital marketing world!

➡ Authentic 😊 vs Hype 🙃

In the digital world learn to recognize the authentic engagements, meaningful interactions and growing a community that appreciates the value you create. That is real gold! Don't get carried away by the viral posts and the multitude of followers - they are flashy metrics - (gold plated) . To be real gold - stay authentic !

➡ Long term 👑 vs Short term Wins 🤡

Quick easy fixes give you temporary spikes in your digital mileage. However long term, consistent efforts such as LinkedIn SEO, a strong focused effort on content strategy and diligent audience engagement can build a sustainable LinkedIn presence.

➡ Organic 🍀 vs Paid 💰 Reach

I am a strong advocate of organic digital marketing! There is enough and more you can do to create meaningful relationships which do not require to invest a huge amount of money. Paid marketing is good - but not necessary! Paid marketing can give you an illusion of rapid growth however not only does it create a hole in your pocket but does not nurture long term growth. Organic efforts reflect genuine interest and foster trust from your audiences which the real gold for long term success!

True success in the digital world is not measured by what shines the brightest - rather what stands the test of time! Gold plated will fade and loose its shine but real gold has lasting value. It is something that helps you outshine the rest.

Finding the right people for your team is as important as breathing oxygen. I am not exaggerating here. I am sure each of us has some point burnt out fingers and suffered because of this. 💯💯

What can you do to get the right person

1️⃣ Ensure you develop a culture of accountability. Without ownership there is chaos and confusion

2️⃣ You are not a parent - you are the boss! Don't be shy to give honest feedback. My cousin once told me - A good boss will always show some dissatisfaction to motivate the team to keep doing better . Encourage good work, reprimand and point improvement for mistakes.

3️⃣I wish someone had told me this earlier - Don't be scared they will leave you !! if they do you will find someone.. we often live under this fear and end up shifting power unreasonably

4️⃣. Learn to delegate - how to coach and train a team member is a skill - patience persistence and clarity.

5️⃣Check the attitude ! skills can be taught but temperament, maturity, authenticity cannot be.

If you thought making sure the team member performs well is more the team members responsibility - you are wrong !

You will always find clowns .. empower them, encourage them and make sure you teach them to work like kings ! 👑👑🤴🤴
