Time Series Analysis (TSA) is a valuable skill set in the industry. Its a technique that may be applied across industries. For example, whether one is working in procurements managing the Just-in-Time (JIT) inventory management or one is in liquidity risk trying to estimate the CASA balance for the next period, TSA is a technique which can come very useful

On industry projects:
1. Input data may come in a variety of forms say panel data / cross sectional data / pooled data etc. On most occasions, data may need to be cleaned and missing values handled
2. Exploratory Date Analysis (EDA) is performed to understand the nature of the data. Factors like trends, seasonality, cyclicity etc. are checked
3. Data is checked for stationarity using popular tests like ADF, KPSS test etc. If not stationary, techniques like say differencing etc. may be applied to stationarize.
4. Appropriate model is chosen say ARIMA, S-ARIMA etc. Choosing the correct model goes a long way in the overall performance of the system. Model is fit to the dataset.
5. Performance of the model is evaluated using popular metrics.
6. Once convinced, the model can be used to make forecasts!

Below picture gives the generic process used in fitting the ARIMA(p,d,q) model which involves optimizing three parameters namely
d: order of differencing
p: auto-regressive term
q: moving average term

Whether one is preparing for a job interview Or plans to use TSA on their projects, knowledge of TSA is very important. Further, with Python libraries, an ARIMA model can be rapidly implemented.
