Nature has been solving design problems for millions of years. At SSD, we encourage students to spend time noticing the patterns, systems, and stories hidden in the natural world.🌍🪴

Through nature journaling, students spent weeks observing, questioning, and finding design principles hidden in the patterns, systems, and behaviours around them, translating what nature has perfected into thoughtful product design solutions.

The jury with Simar and Aditya 'Shepherd' | •Son of ☀️• brought it all together- students left having touched, tasted, and smelled local herbs, forest ingredients, and uncommon plants most of us walk past every day, and having listened to a live bamboo flute performance. A reminder that the most valuable design research happens when all your senses are involved.

Prompt. Create. Learn. Repeat. 🤖✨

As a part of the Somaiya AI Circle initiative, in collaboration with the KJ Somaiya Polytechnic AI & Robotics Lab, our Professor of Practice, Shefali Desai, conducted a hands-on 'Claude for Beginners' workshop for students, faculty, and staff. From writing better prompts to using AI as a practical everyday tool, the session was all about learning by doing and discovering how to work with AI, not just use it.

Ideas are easy. Making others believe in them? That takes skill.

Guided by Shefali Desai Shefali Desai—Designer | Educator | Entrepreneur , our design students explored one facet of Digital Prototyping through Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, transforming concepts inspired by pop culture and personal heroes into compelling visual experiences. From merchandise to graphic applications, each project demonstrates how prototypes help designers communicate ideas, refine and visualise ideas before they become reality.
