A group of students at Somaiya School of Design kick-started their 9-month Product Development Project (PDP) at Aalto University, Finland , collaborating with Carbo Culture , a company building climate-positive solutions through biochar technology.

From concept sketches to interactive prototypes, our students are bringing ideas to life by crafting designs that tell stories of innovation and purpose. They’re exploring materials, testing layouts, and collaborating in real time alongside mentors from Aalto & Carbo Culture 🌍🚀

A group of final year students at Somaiya School of Design are working with the Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation (HCHF), under the leadership of Dr. Sonam Wangchok, in Ladakh, a community-led organization that has been preserving the natural, cultural, material history and folk traditions of the Himalayas for over 15 years. 🏔

From building digital platforms to designing for heritage education, the project challenges students to engage with local communities, document stories, and reflect on how design can contribute to sustainable futures. 💡

From the studios of NABA to the streets of Milan - three of our students have just returned from an unforgettable Semester Abroad at , Italy! 💫

As part of an ongoing collaboration between NABA and SSD, Aayush Mishra, Asmi Soni, & Samyukta Subramanian were selected to participate in the Semester Abroad Program. Over the past few months, they immersed themselves in design education & experienced the rich cultural fabric of Italy. From attending .design.week to exploring cities and absorbing the everyday design that defines Italian life, the journey was transformative.

This experience wasn't just about academics, it was a journey of personal and creative growth. Being part of a global studio culture, collaborating with peers from around the world, and navigating life in a new country helped broaden their perspectives and sharpen their design sensibilities.

A heartfelt thank you to NABA for their warm hospitality, and to Somaiya Vidyavihar University for championing global learning as a core part of our design education.

Dive into tomorrow’s possibilities! 🚀 Our April 3rd panel sessions, aptly named ‘An Outlook into Tomorrow,’ were packed with visionary discussions.

In the first session, ‘Pursuit of Passion,’ led by Shefali Ma’am, we explored the journey from passion to purpose. Vaishak Sajeevan, Harsh*ta Mittal, and Gaurang Shetty shared their expertise, shedding light on how passion fuels innovation and drives success in entrepreneurship and branding.

The second session, ‘Research in Industry,’ moderated by Nikita Savla, delved into the practical aspects of turning insights into action. Shrutika B and Ritika Raisinghani offered valuable perspectives on design research and user experience, providing insights into industry implementation. These sessions illuminated the path forward, inspiring us to embrace creativity and innovation!
