Following a substantial advancement in thermal capture technology, the sun's immense energy may soon be collected in the middle of the night.
During the day, solar radiation heats the earth's crust greatly, but as the sun sets, that energy is lost to the coldness of space.
Researchers have now successfully tested a system that converts infrared heat into electrical power. A power-generation device called a 'thermo-radiative diode,' which is comparable to the technology in night-vision goggles was employed by the team of researchers.
Although the amount of energy generated by this new test is minimal as of now, the proof of concept is noteworthy.
