In this one-day workshop, we will build a portrait bust by hand, starting with the basic form of the head and gradually bringing the face to life.

We will work with volume, proportion and expression, while exploring the wonderful unpredictability of clay — adding, carving, pressing and leaving marks on the surface.

The aim is not a perfect likeness. It is to discover character through form.

No previous experience with sculpture is needed.

Drawing Marathon | One Object. Twenty Interpretations.

At first, it felt repetitive.

Then something shifted.

Every new viewpoint revealed a different shape.
Every new angle uncovered a different relationship between light, shadow and space.
The object stayed exactly the same—but the drawings kept changing.

By the twentieth interpretation, our students weren’t just drawing what they saw.

They were discovering how they see.

That’s the heart of the Drawing Marathon.

Not perfect drawings.
Not copying what everyone else sees.

But slowing down long enough to find your own way of looking.

DAY 3 | Same Object. Different Eyes.

Today our students drew the same object... over and over again.

From the stairs.
Under the table.
Lying on the floor.
Standing.
Cropping it.
Zooming in.
Looking through the spaces instead of at the object.

By the end of the session, something unexpected happened.

The chair wasn’t just a chair anymore.
It became rhythm.
Light.
Texture.
Negative space.
Movement.

The object never changed.

Their way of seeing did.

That’s what this Drawing Marathon is really about—not making one perfect drawing, but discovering that every viewpoint tells a different story.

And yes... there really were students under the tables. 😄

DAY 2 | Material Lab

What happens when you take away the pencil?

Today we swapped familiar tools for charcoal, ink, cardboard, cloth and anything that could make a mark.

It wasn’t about finding the “best” material.

It was about discovering how each one changes the way we see.

The living drawings are beginning to grow.

And tomorrow, they take another step.

DAY 1 | Drawing Marathon

Most people think artists begin with masterpieces.

They don’t.

They begin with questions.

Today we filled pages with continuous lines, blind contours, cropped compositions and negative spaces—not to create finished drawings, but to change the way we look.

There were awkward moments, laughter, surprising discoveries and a lot of letting go of perfection.

By the end of the day, something had already shifted.

The best part?

This is only the beginning.

Tomorrow we trade pencils for charcoal, ink and experimental materials, and the real fun begins.
