Teej Festival Celebrated with Traditional Fervour and Enthusiasm at SPN College, Mukerian
Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya Mukerian, celebrated the vibrant festival of 'Teej' with great enthusiasm and fervour, showcasing the rich cultural heritage, traditions and folk spirit of Punjab. The celebration provided students with an opportunity to reconnect with their cultural roots and experience the joy and warmth associated with this traditional festival.
Madam Varsha Swaraj ji graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Madam Meenakshi Anand ji, Madam Alka Lakhanpal ji and Madam Renu Aggarwal ji were the Guests of Honour. Their gracious presence added charm and distinction to the celebrations.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma, emphasised that Punjabi folk heritage is an integral part of the region’s cultural identity. He remarked that such celebrations play an important role in nurturing among students a sense of pride in their mother tongue, culture and traditions. He expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, faculty members and students for their enthusiastic participation and contribution to the success of the event.
Madam Meenakshi Anand Ji addressed the gathering and appreciated the enthusiasm and talent of the students and congratulated them for their vibrant participation in the Teej Festival. She lauded the organisers for making the celebration a memorable and culturally enriching occasion that beautifully showcased the rich traditions, customs and folk heritage of Punjab.
Expressing her happiness and gratitude at being invited to the Teej Festival, she said that such celebrations play a significant role in keeping our cultural traditions alive and strengthening the bond of togetherness among the younger generation. She appreciated the efforts of the college in providing students with a platform to express their creativity, confidence and artistic talents while celebrating the spirit of Punjabi culture. She extended her heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the students, faculty members and the entire organising team for the successful conduct of the festival.
Dr. Kiranjit Kaur, the Programme In-charge & Head, Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, highlighted the historical and cultural significance of Teej. She explained that Teej is an important festival of Punjabi culture, symbolising the joy, vibrancy and spirit of togetherness associated with the month of Saawan. She encouraged the students to remain connected with Punjabi traditions, folk songs, folk dances and the rich cultural values passed down through generations.
The celebrations were marked by colourful cultural presentations by the students. The girl students presented a captivating glimpse of traditional Punjabi life through their Punjabi attire, Giddha, Mehendi and other cultural activities. Various titles were also conferred on the students in recognition of their participation and talent. Sanjana Manhas was crowned “Miss Teej-2026”, while Megha and Deeksha won the title of “Best Outfit" and Simranjit Kaur was adjudged “Best Performer.”
A variety of stalls were also set up by the students, featuring Mehendi, crochet handicrafts, handmade articles and other traditional and creative products. The stalls provided students with a platform to showcase their artistic skills, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. The beautifully presented stalls attracted considerable attention and appreciation from the guests and attendees.
The stage was efficiently conducted by Prof. Anuradha, Head, Post Graduate Department of History and Dr. Sandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor, Post Graduate Department of Punjabi, who handled the proceedings with confidence and finesse. Their engaging and lively presentation kept the audience connected throughout the programme. They presented the various activities, cultural performances and competitions in an entertaining and well-coordinated manner, adding to the festive atmosphere and overall appeal of the event.
Prof. Nidhi Sood, Head, Post Graduate Department of English expressed her special gratitude to the SPN College Management Committee and Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma, for their continued support and encouragement. She acknowledged that their consistent guidance and patronage have made it possible to organise such meaningful cultural and creative events, providing students with valuable opportunities to celebrate their heritage while nurturing their creativity and confidence.
The Teej celebration concluded on a joyful and vibrant note, leaving the students and guests with cherished memories of Punjabi culture, tradition and togetherness.
