The Ultimate Social Strategy: Build Lasting Relationships
Most social strategies are mapped out with specific business objectives in mind such as brand awareness, customer care or sales. Relationships are the motivation and driving force behind social media. Connecting with others and finding value in these relationships is why we as consumers use social networks in our daily lives. The companies who find valuable ways to build relationships win share of voice, loyalty and ultimately, new business. The catch is that these relationships aren’t built overnight. They must be nurtured over time by consistently creating great social experiences for your customers.
The shift in mindset for brands is this: social isn’t about “quick wins”, but rather approaching each social interaction as one step in an ongoing journey to building lasting relationships. Striving to make each social moment great is what creates likeable brands, and lays the foundation upon which to implement winning strategies and tactics.
While the road to building lasting relationships is long, here are three crucial elements all social brands can implement to change their relationship status with consumers.
+ Be a trusted connection by listening first, and never stop.
+ Fuel conversation by responding and engaging.
+ Become a storyteller by sharing and inspiring stories.

The Biggest Shift in the History of Sales
Salespeople who put the buyer at the center of their universe are winning. We call them sincere salespeople.
+ Sincere salespeople lead first with empathy, honesty and care.
+ Sincere salespeople listen to customers and uncover their pains so they can provide a fitting solution.
+ Sincere salespeople make commitments and follow through so they can earn buyers' trust.
+ Sincere salespeople research and understand their buyers at the highest level so they can make their lives better and stop wasting their time.
But selling with sincerity is hard. It's hard to be sincere when you have to hit your numbers. It's hard to be sincere with outbound sales and email campaigns. It's hard. But it can be done.

What is Leadership and what makes a good Leader?
Roost (1991) distinguishes leadership and management. Leadership is a multidirectional influence relationships and management is a unidirectional authority relationship.
Bennis and Nanus (1985) To manage is to accomplish activities and master routines. To lead means to influence others and create visions for change
Fenton (1990) “Leaders must let vision, strategies, goals, and values be the guide-post for action and behaviour rather than attempting to control others.”
Kotter (1990) Argues that management is about providing order and consistency to organisations and leadership is about adaptive and constructive change.
Northouse (2001) Leaders are those who influence a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.

How BlackBerry Finally Found Its Buyer
Just days after announcing apocalyptic cuts in its workforce, the company revealed that its largest stakeholder, Fairfax Financial Holdings, has offered to buy the company out for $4.7 billion, or $9 a share.
The proposed deal comes in the nick of time. BlackBerry (BBRY), née Research In Motion, was left as the smartphone-hardware company still hanging around the party after everyone else had already paired off: Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) swept Palm away to a marriage that never quite worked out, Google (GOOG) took Motorola home, and Microsoft (MSFT) finally committed to Nokia (NOK) after leading it on through an extended “partnership” phase. Even Dell (DELL), a onetime smartphone player, will buy itself out and head home alone.

How to Design a Winning Company
The eight components of your organizational genome hold the secret to unleashing superior performance.
To succeed consistently in the marketplace, a company must have a clear and differentiated way of creating value for its customers, supported by well-defined capabilities—things it does exceptionally well that are central to its ability to perform, and hard to replicate. All this should be reflected in its portfolio of products and services. But those elements will lead to sustainable success only if the company has the right organizational design, one that enables it to execute its strategy.

How Ready Are You for Growth?
A Booz & Company study reveals that only 17 percent of companies are poised for a profitable future.
Since the economic crisis, many companies have been trying to figure out the best way to reposition themselves for greater performance and success in the future. Clearly the answer involves some combination of growth strategy and cost management. Over the past several years, working in a variety of industries, we have seen firsthand that companies that do three things together seem to be better positioned for a sustainable course of high performance. First, they create clarity and coherence in their strategy, articulating the differentiating capabilities that they will need to win in the marketplace. Second, they put in place an optimized cost structure and approach to capital allocation, with continual investment in the capabilities critical to success, while proactively cutting costs in less-critical areas to fund these investments. Third, they build supportive organizations. They redesign their structures, incentives, decision rights, skill sets, and other organizational and cultural elements to more closely align their behavior to their strategy, and to harness the collective actions of their people.
