Shivalik Public School Hosts CBSE Capacity Building Programme on Competency-Based Assessment – English
Shivalik Public School, Sector 78, SAS Nagar, Mohali, successfully hosted a two-day CBSE Capacity Building Programme on Competency-Based Assessment – English (Middle Stage: Grades VI–VIII) on 7th and 8th August 2026.
Aligned with the vision of NEP 2020 and CBSE’s assessment reforms, the programme focused on strengthening teachers’ understanding of competency-based assessment, designing effective questions, fostering higher-order thinking, and developing meaningful, learner-centred assessments.
The sessions were facilitated by esteemed CBSE Resource Persons, Ms. Shveta Goyal, PGT, Delhi Public School, Village Reethkheri, District Patiala, and Ms. Balwinder Kaur, Principal, Tejas Public School, Village Chaukiman, District Ludhiana. The programme was also graced by Dr. Gurkiran Jeet Nalwa, Educational Advisor and Principal, Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, Chandigarh, and Dr. Anupkiran Kaur, Principal, Shivalik Public School, Phase VI, Mohali.
Through engaging presentations, collaborative discussions, hands-on activities, and question-framing exercises, participants gained practical insights into creating authentic assessments that focus on the application of knowledge and skills.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from English teachers across various CBSE-affiliated schools. The two-day learning experience concluded on a positive note, reinforcing the importance of continuous professional development and progressive assessment practices that nurture critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and conceptual understanding among learners.

Class VII students of school enthusiastically participated in a *Tie and Dye Workshop* being organised at school under Kaushal Bodh Initiative. The activity provided a hands-on learning experience where students explored different tie-and-dye techniques such as folding, twisting, tying, and binding to create unique patterns on fabric.
Through this creative exercise, students developed an understanding of colour application, fabric dyeing methods, and pattern formation while expressing their artistic skills.
