They say it's the best time to pursue Astronomy and Astrophysics. We care for your future. So we present before you the third talk of the series to be delivered by Debasish Hazarika. With so many new telescopes operating across the globe (both land and space-based), it would be exciting to have a view of the sky from the perspective of an observational astronomer. Debasish is someone who operates these telescopes for his research from Chile, a place identified to be the paradise for doing observational astronomy. Today's post is about the Fields Medal in Mathematics. You must be wondering why we need to discuss this, especially when we have our own Nobel prize. Well, the connection is more subtle than you think. The Fields medal (which is the equivalent to Nobel prize in Mathematics) has been awarded to Prof. Hugo Duminil-Copin of Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques (IHES). His research is focused on application of Probability theory to solve problems of Statistical Physics. The institute where he works have had 12 Professors till date, and 7 of them have bagged the medal. Find out what makes the institute unique in the following article. The article is really impressive, and I realized what was missing in our Institutes back home. Research and success is no doubt a matter of state-of-the-art facilities. However, factors like conducive environments, intellectually stimulating and homely atmosphere, indeed are very important. I request the students to widen their horizons of imagination and try exploring these opportunities in these world class institutes for their career.

Things to note before making a career choice:

(1) Graduation is an important part of everyone's life. It sets the stage for your future. Therefore, a lot depends on the choice of subject. Make sure to select the subject best suited for you.

(2) In choosing the subject, make sure to analyze the job market. What opportunities the subject will offer you once you graduate? Is the course structure of the subject adept in making you skillful enough? In Physics, for instance, we teach programming, Excel, Latex and Origin, which are considered very important skills for preparing you to the job and research market. Do find out if your subject offers these courses too.

(3) After 12th, graduation is altogether a different ball game. Many of us blankly ignored class 11 and 12 lectures because we had home tutors to make up for the loss. This concept will not hold true in graduation. No tuition are available for graduation. You have to rely largely on the College lectures and self-study to educate your self and making yourself competent. This is what brings us to the next point.

(4) Chose your department wisely. Check faculty strength, faculty profiles, faculty experience, departmental facilities and student achievements before blindly committing to any subject. Chapters will become subjects in graduation course. Therefore, a single teacher cannot cover up all the course structure. Thus, there are different teachers teaching you different courses. Since you have to heavily rely on these teachers, make sure they are the best ones for you.

(5) Check the faculty profile wisely. If the teachers are competent enough, they will try to make you the same. Make sure to check the alumni achievements of the department. if there are formidable number of alumni doing great in their career, it automatically implies that they have been taught well. Always remember "If you learn from the best, you will be the best."

As a country, we have grown leaps and bounds in the last few decades. Among the most incredible achievements, we must laud the Indian Space Research Organisation. ISRO has the reputation of leading the most cost-effective space research program. However, as students of Science, we must understand that advanced technologies come at the cost of money. Frugal engineering has its limitations. Organizations like SpaceX are already giving tough competition to ISRO by developing the most cost-effective rockets. India has started to realize that in order to remain at the forefront, we need money. This has called for the privatization of the space sector. This is a welcome move. Start-ups in the space sector have already come up and are working effectively. In the coming years, they are expected to take India ahead in the space race. We would like to share with you today an incredible "desi" book about a "dabbang" IPS officer Mr. Manoj K Sharma of Maharashtra Cadre. This book entails his journey of struggles from failing in 12th to being a tempo conductor and rising to fame by clearing UPSC. The book is an inspiration for all those who dare to dream. From sleeping empty stomach for several nights on a park bench to washing utensils in a hotel, the protagonist (Mr. Manoj K Sharma) has seen it all. The only thing that kept him going was his insatiable thirst to become successful. I bet you won't be able to stop once you start reading. I am sure many of you would be in tears after finishing the masterpiece.

The reason why it is unavailable is that it has been a best seller from the day it was launched. An incredible feat to accomplish. For those aspiring to join civil services, it is a must-read. The video that we are posting today is something very motivating. Leonard Susskind: a classy theoretical physicist (whom most of our generation of physicists owe a great deal due to his wonderful lectures on GTR) talking about another genius: Richard Feynman: their friendship, intellectual debates, and of course their sandwiches.

The key idea to take around is genius people never give up. They have a mountain of ego which helps keep them ahead of their peers. Develop that ego within yourself and we are sure you will never fall back in life.
