Subject: Request to Change Criteria for Recent Vacancy at Kalimpong District Hospital
The recent notification for the Staff Nurse position at Kalimpong District Hospital has been a great opportunity for many of us to work in the GTA region and take care of our people. However, those of us who completed our nursing education outside of West Bengal are facing challenges with the registration requirements set by the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC). The current criteria are proving to be both lengthy and difficult.
To meet the WBNC requirements, we are required to provide:
- A certificate from a private hospital or nursing home in West Bengal confirming six months of work issued within the last month.
- Six months of pay slips, updated to the current month, with the employer’s seal and signature.
The issues we are facing include:
- We must work for six months in a private facility in West Bengal before we can apply for registration.
- Even after completing the six months in a private hospital, we are eligible for registration, but due to the high volume of applications throughout the country, the slots for verification are fully booked until February 2025. This means it could take up to a year to complete the registration process.
We are worried that there is an upcoming vacancy for the position of staff nurse more than 5000 under the government of West Bengal, which criteria is WBNC registration.
Given these challenges, we kindly request your assistance with the following:
1. We request a change in the criteria to "Must be registered under West Bengal Nursing Council to Register as General Nurse and Midwife with Central or State Nursing Council" and "The Candidate should be from the GTA region, not from West Bengal" in the latest notification published by Kalimpong District Hospital.
2. Set up a Reciprocal Registration Verification Camp in Kalimpong or Darjeeling Nursing College for GTA candidates:
- Please consider arranging the Reciprocal Registration Verification process in GTA region for the resident of GTA. Many of us face difficulties traveling to Kolkata due to language barriers and other logistical issues. There are over 100+ candidates in the GTA Region who would greatly benefit from this.
We appreciate your understanding and consideration of this matter.
Thank you,
