A school that can boast of Rishi Rajnarayan Basu as Headmaster; author of the Indian National Song, "Bandemataram", Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Sahid Kshudiram Bose as students hardly need introduction. We fail to understand even this great Institution of national importance so long remained unsung, less-heard of and pathetically uncared for. Though a little belatedly the West Bengal Heritage Commission through its Notification u/s 9(1) of the West Bengal Heritage Commission Act 2001 declared Rishi Rajnarayan Smriti Bhawan of the Collegiate School Building as a Heritage Building on 16.09.2006 and this state Govt. recognition somewhat corrected our guilt. Founded as early as in 1834 when it was still darkness almost all over india, Midnapore Collegiate School has had since then a sterling track record not only in academic and related fields but also has had to her credit a unique and sustained contribution to our national struggle for independence.
