Discover the breath
Ask the students to put their hands on their chest and keep silence for some time. Then ask: “What did you feel?”
“The chest was moving..”
“How was it moving?”
“Up and down.”
“Why was it moving up and down?”
“Because we are breathing…”
“What happens when we breathe?”
“The air is going inside…”
“Then?”
“Then it is going outside…”
“So, when we breathe in, the air is going inside, then we breathe out the air is going out. Very good. The air that goes out: how does it feel? Let us see… Put your finger under your nose and feel the air while it is going in, and while it is coming out. Ready?”
The students put their index under their nose and feel the air for some time. Then you ask: “What did you feel?”
“The air is cool.”
“When is the air cool?”
“When we breathe in.”
“Good. Then?”
“The air is warm.”
“When the air is warm?”
“When we breathe out.”
“Very good. You discover that when we breathe in the air is cool, and when we breathe out the air is warm. Now we should discover something more about the air, and the breath. Let us check. I will count to five, and you hold your breath. Do not breathe at all. Ready? One, two, three, four, five!”
Children followed the instructions.
“How did you feel?”
Let children express their feeling of not being comfortable without breathing.
Discover something more about your breath: the relation of breath and emotions.
“Do you always breathe in the same way?”
“Yes?”
“Yes? Now, please, stand up, and start jumping as much as possible. Ready?”
All children jump for a few minutes.
Then ask them to stop and look at their breath.
“How is your breath? Is it like before?”
“No, it is faster!”
