"We are planning to LAYOFF 50% of employees in the 10-15 yrs experience range". A CEO of a mid sized IT company shared with me. "Why only in this experience range?" I asked He shared 3 Reasons: 1. Their salary packages are not sustainable 2. Their skills are redundant 3. They are unwilling to learn new things, they dont have enough hunger & passion left within them I kind of agree with all the 3 reasons having been a techie myself. As I spoke to him more, he shared "The middle to senior layer in most firms may get replaced soon. Sadly most of these folks may not get jobs soon. Many of these folks may not ever work ever again. Another wakeup call for those who have just been managing bosses and have never focussed on skills. All those folks hiding under carpets, the carpet is going soon." I know this sounds a bit depressing but this is the hard reality. 2020 will continue with layoffs of techies in the mid to senior level. Some reports suggest a 100,000 folks will be laid off in 2020. I know many techies will say companies are to be blamed. But does it matter? The writing is clear on the wall, either change or be left out ! Thoughts? Are you upskilling yourself?
