The waste audit conducted on May 13, 2026, by the Eco Club , Govt.SS School,Melli Bazar ,South Sikkim provides a detailed snapshot of the waste generation patterns across different grade levels at the institution. By quantifying the output of "all types" of waste, the club has established a baseline to measure environmental impact and student accountability.

The audit reveals a wide variance in waste production among the classes.

𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼-𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀:
Several classes, including Grades I, II, VI, VII B, VIII, IX A, and XII (IT), recorded "Nil" waste, successfully meeting the ideal environmental standard.

Highest Contributors:
Grade XI (Humanities) produced the largest volume of waste at 2.5 kg followed closely by VII A, IX B, and XII (Humanities), which each generated 1.5 kg.

Minimal Waste:
Younger grades and specific sections like LKG/UKG (0.1 gm) and Grade X (0.05 gm) showed negligible waste levels.

𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩: The total waste from Class LKG to XII recorded for this audit period reached a grand total of
𝟖.𝟖𝟓𝟎 𝐤𝐠.
𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁 :
The primary goal of the Eco-club in performing this audit is to transition the school toward a "zero waste" model.

Beyond simple data collection, the motives include:

By breaking down data by class, the audit identifies
groups need more targeted environmental education.

It forces students and staff to visualize their physical impact on the environment through concrete weights and measurements.

The audit concludes with a clear directive to "ensure zero waste in next Audit," using the current findings as a benchmark for future improvement.

​On April 22, 2026, Eco Club , Govt.SS School,Melli Bazar ,South Sikkim , observed
𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 🌏𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 with a
series of activities aimed at fostering environmental consiousness.The event focused on sustainability and the collective responsibility of protecting our natural resources.

𝘼𝙙𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙖𝙡 :
A pivotal moment of the celebration was the address by the Principal,Mr Pramod Pradhan . Speaking to the assembled students and staff, he emphasized that environmental protection is not a one-day duty but a lifelong commitment.
He urged students to start with manageable habits, such as turning off unnecessary lights and reducing single-use plastics within the school premises.He reminded and encouraged the seniors that as they prepare to leave the school, they must carry the values of conservation into the wider world, acting as ambassadors for the planet.
He also highlighted how the collaboration between teachers, parents, and government departments (like the Forest Department) is essential for building a "Green Melli."

🟢 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢 𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨

The program commenced with an address by Miss Yangchen Tamang (Class XII). The speech highlighted the urgency of climate action and the vital role students play in leading environmental change.

🟢 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙎𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚:

The youngest learners of the school contributed through a lively Action Song. Their performance creatively demonstrated simple ways to care for the planet, such as planting trees and conserving water.

A significant highlight of the event was the "𝙀𝙘𝙤 𝘾𝙡𝙪𝙗 𝘽𝙖𝙙𝙜𝙚" 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨
Selected students were designated as "𝙀𝙘𝙤 𝙒𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙨,"
officially tasked with leading green initiatives and maintaining a plastic-free campus.

​In a beautiful gesture toward greening the campus, the school received a generous contribution of over 50 flowering and non-flowering plants.

Introduction
On March 30, 2026, the Eco-Club and NSS Unit of Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Melli Bazar, conducted a joint cleanliness drive under the Environment Education Programme (LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment). The initiative was specifically aimed at restoring and cleaning the public footpath located directly in front of the school premises.
Organization and Leadership
The entire event was conducted under the visionary leadership of the Principal, Mr. Pramod Pradhan whose active participation and guidance served as a great source of motivation for the volunteers.
The drive was meticulously organized and supervised by:
• Mrs. Renuka Pradhan: Green Teacher, Eco-Club.
• Ms. Roshna Giri: Nodal Teacher, NSS Unit.
Participants
The drive saw a high level of engagement from the following:
• Faculty: A dedicated team of both teaching and non-teaching staff worked alongside the students to ensure the success of the program.
• Student Volunteers: Enthusiastic members of the Eco-Club and NSS Unit, identifiable by their school uniforms and mission-specific caps, spearheaded the manual labor.
Key Activities
During the 6th and 7th periods, the following tasks were successfully carried out:
• Debris Removal: Participants cleared heavy accumulations of dry leaves, soil, and litter from the pedestrian walkway.
• Vegetation Management: Volunteers worked together to clear overgrown weeds and wild shrubs that had encroached upon the footpath area.
• Waste Collection: Non-biodegradable waste, including plastics and wrappers, was collected in sacks for proper disposal.
• Restoration: The area was leveled and swept to ensure a safe, clean, and accessible passage for students and the residents of Melli Bazar.

Eco-Club Melli Sr.Sec.School 30 students alongwith 10 EscortTeachers on 7th Nov 2025 at
8 PM started our journey from GSSS,Melli Bazar to embark on wonderful
𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 to Pelling, West Sikkim under the 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 (𝗘𝗘𝗣) 2025–26. The day was a perfect blend of exploration, history, and hands-on environmental learning.

🕊️ 𝙎𝙞𝙠𝙙𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝘽𝙞𝙧𝙙 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙠 🦢🐦🐿️🦫🦇🦔🦡🦨
We began with the calm green trails of Sikdeong Bird Park, where forest officials introduced our students to various bird species, their habitats, feeding patterns, and the need for conservation. This visit helped students understand how birds maintain ecological balance and why protecting biodiversity is crucial.

🏰 𝗥𝗮𝗯𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗶𝗻𝘀 :
The Second Capital of Sikkim⬇️
Our next stop was the historic 𝗥𝗮𝗯𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀𝗲 ruins. Officials briefed students on its cultural and archaeological importance as the ancient seat ofNamgyal
rulers. Walking through the stone pathways, the children learned how heritage, nature, and history come together to tell the story of Sikkim’s past. The experience strengthened their understanding of heritage conservation and respect for culture.

🌉𝗦𝗸𝘆𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸, 𝗣𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 :
The visit to the Pelling Skywalk gave our students a glimpse into eco-tourism. They learned how tourism can support communities when practiced responsibly. The breathtaking view of the Chenrezig statue and surrounding mountains made them appreciate the harmony between spirituality, tourism, and nature.

♻️ 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲🗑️
On the way, our young explorers conducted a short plastic collection drive, spreading awareness about responsible travel and the importance of keeping our environment clean.

Since the Dussehra holidays start from 27th September, both these programmes were clubbed together and conducted on 26th September 2025 to ensure full participation of students and staff. On this day, awareness sessions on personal hygiene were held along with exhibitions, competitions and creative displays related to Swachhata, making the programme meaningful and effective.

The students of Melli Bazar Sr. Sec. School was given project work to make advertisement and sell the product. The product was toothpaste relevant to today’s programme. This was an skill development activity carried by Nepali subject. The topic was well versed by Nimasang Tamang followed by class X group song scripted on their own. This was an initiative to improve abilities and knowledge for career advancement and employable focusing on swachhata hygiene habits as well.
Class LKG/UKG/I performed the rhyme “This is the Way We Brush Our Teeth” promoting consistent hygiene.
This approach helps children learn proper oral care in an engaging way, preventing problems and establishing a vital life long habit. Toothbrush was distributed to them.

Pre celebration of the day by displaying cartoons related to the topic at the school assembly courtyard.
Followed by distribution of waste bins and storage bins made of waste products were distributed to all classes from PP-12 .

Since the Dussehra holidays were scheduled to begin from 27th September, the programmes originally planned for 28th, 29th and 30th September were clubbed together and conducted on 25th and 26th September 2025 to ensure full participation of students and staff. Prior to this, on 23rd September, a short meeting was held to plan the community awareness campaign, where it was decided to organise a Nukkad Natak on single-use plastic. Accordingly, on 25th September 2025, the Nukkad Natak was successfully staged at the Melli Bazar premises with active involvement of the community.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟵 : 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆

As per the activity guidelines of Swachhata Pakhwada launched by the Government of India, today we conducted various activities including painting, essay writing, and slogan writing to emphasize the importance of cleanliness.

🔴 Students of Classes VI to VIII participated in the painting competition.

🔴 Class IX and X students took part in slogan writing.

🔴 Class XI and XII students participated in the essay writing competition.

These activities not only helped in spreading awareness about cleanliness but also encouraged students to express their thoughts creatively on the significance of maintaining hygiene and a clean environment.
