দীনু হেমরম আমাদের মৌপাল দেশপ্রান বিদ‍্যাপীঠে'র ছাত্রাবাস "রবীন্দ্র শিক্ষার্থী আশ্রম" এর পঞ্চম শ্রেণীর ছাত্র। এই প্রচন্ড গরমে ছাত্রাবাসের অনান‍্য বাচ্চারা যখন বাড়ি যাওয়ার জন্য ছুটি চাইছে। কেউবা বলছে স্কুল ছুটি ছাত্রাবাস কেন ছুটি দেবে না, কেউ বলছে আমাদের রুমের পাখা ঠিক করে ঘোরে না। কেউবা বলছে এখানে বেশি গরম বাড়িতে বেশি গরম নেই। ওদের মধ্যে এই ছাত্রটি বলছে স্যার আমার ছুটি না হলে ভালো। আমি বললাম কেন ? ও বলল বাড়িতে গেলেই তো "বাবার সাথে গরু চরাতে যেতে হবে" এই রোদে যা কষ্ট হয়, তার থেকে এখানে গরমে থাকা অনেক ভালো। সত্যি বলতে কি, কথাটা শুনে বুকের ভেতরটা কেঁপে উঠলো। আমরা বাইরে থেকে ওদের বিচার করি। কেন পড়া করে আসোনি ? কেন বেশি নম্বর পাচ্ছ না ? এইসব বলি। কিন্তু ভেতরে ঢুকে ওদের কষ্ট টা বোঝার চেষ্টা করি না।

ওদের যে কতটা কষ্ট হয় সেটা একমাত্র ওদের মতো ফ্যামিলি থেকে belong করলে তবেই বুঝতে পারবে নাহলে বাকি সবার কাছে গল্পের মতো লাগবে।
