Our culture has no dearth of inspiring teachers and we worship this noblest profession. Teachers play a vital part in shaping the future of mankind, literally and figuratively. DBTR is one such institution to which great teachers automatically gravitate towards. And when they are a part of the noble institution, they pledge their living allegiance to the betterment of the students, for anyone who walks the corridors.

When the new construction projects were announced for our DBTR, along with the thousands who felt that they share the responsibility, the teachers were again at the forefront of this commitment. They are the noblest of humans and as a result, they were intricately involved in the project. They shouldered the responsibility more than anyone else. To them, the restructuring of DBTR, the facilitation of the infrastructure to help see it reach vast new heights, was a personal mission.

It is therefore actually not surprising that the retired teachers have raised an amount in excess of Rupees Fifteen Lakhs for the construction project at DBTR.

The rest of us are all amazed and astounded at this level of magnanimity. Here is another testimonial to the level of greatness of the epic institution that is DBTR. Anyone who has had a brush with the institution will never forget it.

Exercising your franchise
As we all know, the sixteenth Tamilnadu Legislative Assembly Elections were held on the sixth of April all over Tamilnadu, where the people of Tamilnadu select the 234 representatives who will go forth and represent their respective constituencies in the Legislative Assembly. It is indeed a proud moment for every citizen of this great country to be having the freedoms to exercise his/her constitutional right and to collectively choose the leader best fitted to serve their collective needs.
The underlying assumption here is that there is a veritable superiority of the form of democracy over everything else in that the democratic process is the best suited to represent the average person and ensure individual freedoms, so that every person can act or do whatever he/she wants, as long as he/she conforms to the accepted moral and ethical rules of the state and the community. Ensuring the smooth ex*****on of the democratic process is essential for the harmonious co-existence of all the people in this great country.
Our DBTR houses the polling booths 111 and 112, where people from the Mahathana Street, Periyakadaiveethi, Kaveri Attrankarai st (chetty Street), Ambabai Street, Visuvanathaswami Thirku Street, Patamangalam Street, Ayyarappar Vadakuveethi, Mahatma Gandhi Road, would have come to exercise their democratic franchise. The process of polling has got over in a manner that is awe-inspiring to even the so-called developed nations of the world.
One of the main reasons why, for the most part, the polling process is smooth and uneventful, considering the sheer volume of the population, is definitely due to the educational institutions. At DBTR, the values of democracy and the penance every citizen needs to keep in order to maintain the freedoms that we have, are inculcated into the child from an early age. As a result, the people who team out of DBTR are all socially responsible individuals who go on to self-actualize to great levels, which was evident in the recent interactions with the alumni.
In every aspect of your life, your educational institution has had a role to play and will be a reflection in almost every activity you undertake in the future as well.

An Appeal to dear DBTR alumni,
Our iconic DBTR National High School is going through a metamorphosis. As you know very well we have been the hallmark institution for bringing education to thousands of needy children from all walks of life, especially the economically marginalized children. Ours is a 120 year old institution, founded on the noble principle of bringing education to the neediest. The journey started in 1901, with Komal Srinivasa Iyengar who founded the National High School. Later, in the 1970s Diwan Bahadur Sri Rangachari magnanimously gifted 42 acres of land for the school’s betterment. As a token of respect for his magnanimity and benevolence, the name Diwan Bahadur Sri Rangachari was prefixed and the iconic school became DBTR.
In 1992, eminent personalities came together and created a Trust to help better administer the activities of the School. Their grand vision and guidance took DBTR to great heights and we excelled in both education and in sports. With the addition of several young Trustees in 2016, the school was revitalized and got the much-needed push to grasp and adapt to the new education system. DBTR has seen numerous award-winning principals and teachers, has a consistent pass percentile of more than 90% year over year and has reached pinnacles of achievement and recognition like winning the Veerapillai trophy 7 times.
There are 2300 students studying in High School and 700 students in the elementary (Primary) school at DBTR, and most of them are from the economically downtrodden strata. DBTR National High School has always been the beacon of hope, especially for the financially repressed strata, and has gone to foster and shape countless success stories (such as yourself).
The years have taken a toll on the building and now that it is over 75 years old it is vital that a new building is constructed as the existing one has become quite dilapidated. As time progresses the requirements change and the institution has to become better and bigger in order to continue with the same level of noble activities as earlier. In light of the eminent change needed, a lot of planning went into the design and we are pleased to declare that a 40000 square ft state of the art building has been proposed at a projected expenditure of INR 10 crores, inclusive of construction, furnishing, and fixtures within a period of 24 months.
As followers on DBTR social media (DBTR National Higher Secondary School | Facebook, instagram.com/dbtrmayiladuthurai) would be aware, the old buildings have been demolished and we are all set to commence construction of the new buildings, to foster a new chapter in the iconic history of National High School.
The “Bhoomi Pooja” ceremony to start off the new construction has been planned for the 25th of January 2021. It will mark the new chapter in DBTR’s history and many thousands more will get the opportunity to go forth and shine in society. We have shifted the existing school to the newly constructed Temporary Building at our school’s grounds so that the students’ education can continue uninterrupted.
Your National High School reaches out to you now. The new endeavour will be possible only with the help of generous contributions from you, alumni. This is a bugle call for you to pass on the chance for fulfillment to the upcoming generation of deserving youth.
