**Five model biogas plants at DUVASU: turning livestock waste into rural energy and organic manure.**
This was the practical focus of our discussion with Prof. Virendra Kumar Vijay of IIT Delhi during his visit to DUVASU, Mathura. A shared understanding emerged to work towards establishing the plants as demonstration units where farmers, students and other stakeholders can learn how biogas systems operate and assess their use in local settings.
We discussed household, community and entrepreneur-led models that can provide affordable fuel while producing organic manure. Together, these offer a practical pathway towards *Swadeshi energy and fertiliser self-reliance* and a stronger *Go-Adharit Arthvyavastha*.
Prof. Vijay, a champion of biogas-based rural development, is National Coordinator of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Coordinator of IIT Delhi’s Biogas Development and Training Centre, and General Secretary of Biogas Forum-India. I valued the opportunity to discuss these possibilities with him alongside our research and Go-Anusandhan colleagues.
The task ahead is to turn the proposed demonstration units into useful, replicable learning opportunities for farmers.

DUVASU Honours Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya on His 110th Birth Anniversary
DUVASU, Mathura, commemorated the 110th birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya at the University auditorium named in his honour. The gathering paid tribute to his life and reflected on the place of his ideals in contemporary society.
Prof. Bihari Lal Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi, was the Chief Guest. Dr. Harish, social worker and Kshetra Sampark Pramukh, Western Uttar Pradesh, attended as Distinguished Guest. The programme was presided over by Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Vice-Chancellor of DUVASU.
Dr. Harish offered a thoughtful account of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s life, recalling the experiences that shaped his outlook and the simplicity, patriotism and devotion to public service that marked his journey.
Prof. Sharma spoke of the enduring values of Indian culture. An individual’s character, he observed, is revealed not only through learning or achievement, but through conduct, responsibility and the care with which one fulfils duties towards family, society and the nation.
In his presidential address, Dr. Mitra paid tribute to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s vision of service to society. He also reaffirmed the University’s commitment to scientific research, conservation and the sharing of knowledge on indigenous cattle and their welfare.
A notable moment of the programme was the release of prospectuses for two postgraduate diploma programmes: **Animal Welfare** and **Veterinary Ayurveda**. The programmes reflect DUVASU’s efforts to widen opportunities for specialised learning in veterinary and animal sciences.
Faculty members, officers, staff and students joined the commemoration and paid homage to the thinker whose name the University bears.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized at Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, on 20 September 2026, under the esteemed leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Abhijit Mitra. The camp was organized as part of a noble social initiative in collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission Seva Ashram (Rakt Kosh), Ramakrishna Marg, Vrindavan, Mathura. The official university communication scheduled the camp from 9:00 AM at Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Auditorium.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Deans of all colleges, Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), ADSW, Hostel Wardens, faculty members, officers and staff of the University. A large number of girl and boy students also participated actively in the noble cause and voluntarily donated blood. The collective participation of students, teachers and employees reflected the spirit of social responsibility, compassion and service to society.
The blood donation drive received an encouraging response, and a total of 49 units of blood were collected during the camp. The active involvement of the university community demonstrated that the institution is committed not only to academic and professional excellence but also to fulfilling its social responsibilities.
Speaking on the occasion, the university leadership appreciated the voluntary participation of students, faculty members and staff and encouraged everyone to contribute towards humanitarian causes. Blood donation is a valuable social service that can help save lives during medical emergencies, accidents, surgeries and other critical situations.
The successful organization of the camp was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare, university administration, Deans, Hostel Wardens, faculty members, staff, students and the collaborating blood bank team.
The event concluded with appreciation to all blood donors and organizers for their valuable contribution. The enthusiastic participation and donation of 49 units of blood made the programme a meaningful example of “service to society” and strengthened the spirit of community welfare at DUVASU.

DUVASU, Mathura, has successfully installed and commissioned a Low-Cost Gobar gas Plant at the Livestock Farm Complex (LFC), DUVASU, Mathura under the auspices of the Go-Anusandhan Sansthan.
The project was executed under the expert technical guidance and consultancy of Shri KEN Raghavan, Akhil Bhartiya Prakshian Pramukh, Go Sewa. Center,-Chennai, and a renowned expert in cow-based rural economy and low-cost Gram Vikas micro-models.
This project aims to optimize dairy farm waste management by converting cattle dung into clean, renewable cooking energy and nutrient-rich organic slurry. The unit serves as a functional, practical model for undergraduate/postgraduate University students, researchers, and visiting farmers/Trainees to observe efficient, decentralized "Waste-to-Wealth" technology.
This setup serves as an affordable and practical blueprint for rural adoption. To ensure seamless mechanical operation, the system uses two 1000-litre Water tanks, where the upper gas-holding tank has a circumference four inches smaller than the lower digester tank to allow smooth vertical movement. If a farmer were to purchase all the required materials entirely new from a local market, the setup remains highly economical. With this setup, the gas required for cooking three meals a day for a family (4-5 members) can be produced from the dung of approximately two cows.

DUVASU Vice-Chancellor briefs Governor on first-year progress, outlines next phase of development

Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Vice-Chancellor, DUVASU, Mathura, met the Hon’ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Chancellor of the University and briefed her on the University’s progress during his first year in office, which concluded on 03 September 2026.
During the meeting, Dr. Mitra presented key developments in academic expansion, research and innovation, governance reforms, student welfare, infrastructure development, institutional partnerships and outreach.
Among the major developments highlighted were the several extramural research projects, *the registration of "Battisi Goat and Braj Donkey as indigenous breeds by ICAR-NBAGR". He also briefed the Hon’ble Governor on the development of the DUVASU East Campus, Gorakhpur, new academic programmes and initiatives to strengthen the University’s research and innovation ecosystem.
The Vice-Chancellor also apprised the Chancellor of progress in "faculty recruitment, digital and administrative governance, student welfare and hostel improvement, besides major infrastructure works and growing collaborations with national and international institutions.
Dr. Mitra outlined the University’s priorities for the next phase, including operationalising the two Heifer Rearing Centres, strengthening the Gorakhpur East Campus, improving the quality and impact of research, advancing artificial intelligence applications in livestock and veterinary sciences, and expanding strategic institutional partnerships.
The Hon’ble Governor reviewed the progress made during the year and discussed the University’s future priorities with the Vice-Chancellor.

DUVASU, Mathura reaffirms its commitment to social responsibility: 100 TB patients adopted on the occasion of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Birthday
In line with the national commitment towards a TB-Free India and on the occasion of the birthday of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, U.P. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura organised a Nutrition Support Programme in compliance with the directions of the Uttar Pradesh JanBhawan Secretariat under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Mitra. Continuing its tradition of community service and social responsibility, the University family stepped forward to adopt 100 TB patients and extend nutritional support to them during their treatment period.
As part of the initiative, Nutrition Kits (Poshan Potli) containing protein-rich and essential nutrient-based food items were distributed to all the adopted TB patients. The initiative reflects the collective commitment of the University’s Deans, Registrar, Finance Officer, Heads of Departments, Professors, Scientists and faculty members towards supporting vulnerable sections of society.
Addressing the patients and their families, the District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) highlighted that TB is a curable disease and emphasised the importance of regular and complete adherence to prescribed medication. He also underlined the role of adequate and balanced nutrition in supporting recovery and improving overall health during TB treatment.
The initiative reflects DUVASU’s commitment to social responsibility, community health and compassionate public service, while strengthening people’s participation in the national mission of TB-Free India. As per received directive from Raj Bhawan, Uttar Pradesh, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Pasu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go Anusandhan Mathura, inaugurated a book exhibition and a Digital Library In-Out system to promote the culture of reading and learning on the University campus.
The initiative were launched under the guidance and direction of University Vice-chancellor Dr.Abhijit Mitra as part of the university’s efforts to promote the message “Pade Vishwavidyalaya Bade Vishwavidyalaya”
The Book exhibition aims to introduce students, faculty members and research scholars to useful and informative books while encouraging a culture of reading, learning and academic study. A wide range of books covering subject, such as veterinary science, Biotechnology, Dairy Technology, Fisheries Science, research and other relevant field were displayed at the exhibition.
On the occasion, the University also inaugurated a Digital library In-Out system. The modern system will enable the library to maintain systematic digital record of the entry and exit of students and other users. The initiative is expected to make Library services more accessible, transparent and efficient.

On 01 September 2026: U.P. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, under the inspiring leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Mitra, organized a captivating S**C MACAY Heritage Programme at the University.
The programme, organized by the S**C MACAY Heritage Club, DUVASU Mathura Chapter, provided students and members of the University community an enriching opportunity to experience the beauty, depth and timelessness of Indian classical music and cultural heritage.
The highlight of the evening was a mesmerizing musical presentation by Pt. Gaurav Mazumdar, renowned Sitarist, accompanied by Tabla-Sukant Krishna. The soulful performance immersed the audience in the rich traditions of Indian classical music and created an atmosphere of cultural appreciation and artistic inspiration.

Yuva Samvad Programme Report: "Aao Banayen Samarth Bharat!"
On August 27, 2026, DUVASU hosted the Yuva Samvad programme centered on the inspiring theme “Aao Banayen Samarth Bharat!” (Let us Build a Capable India) at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Auditorium. Commencing at 4:30 PM under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhijit Mitra, the event aimed to energize youth around the core values of nation-building, social responsibility, and self-reliance.
The keynote address was delivered by Shri Ajit Kumar Mahapatra Ji, Akhil Bharatiya Gau Seva Pramukh. His address urged students to take an active role in national growth while emphasizing the essential dimensions of social harmony, environmental stewardship, and civic responsibility. The resulting interactive session provided an engaging forum for students to reflect on their individual contributions to society.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of the Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) Prize to Snehal Srivastava, a B.Tech. student from the College of Dairy Science, for securing First Position.
