The Manipur government has ordered to suspend “physical classes” in all schools. It has also postponed board exams for classes X and XII as a pre-emptive measure against the rise of COVID-19 cases.

“The scheduled examination for Board Of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and Council Of Higher Secondary Education Manipur examination have been postponed due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in the state,” an official statement said on Monday.

Meanwhile, informing the media regarding the postponement of school examinations, Manipur Education Minister, S. Rajen Singh, in a press conference held at the minister’s office at old secretariat, said that in view of the 2nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic and ever-increasing number of COVID-19 cases the government has decided to postpone BOSEM and COHSEM exams 2020-21 as a precautionary measure.

Rajen maintained that ongoing “physical classes of class IX to XII will also discontinue”. But online classes will be allowed. He said that hostels and boarding including private hostels will remain closed until further order.

He then appealed to school authorities and guardians to cooperate with the decision of the government. New schedule of exams will be announced accordingly. The Education minister advised that students should not ignore their study at home.
