THE ALLIANCE FRANCAISE OF MANIPAL INVITES YOU TO CELEBRATE THE FRANCOPHONY DAY!

Every year on the 21st of March, French speaking communities around the world celebrate French language with a festival called Fête de la Francophonie.
Last year was the first celebration in Manipal. This year the Alliance Française organizes two events to celebrate this day with Manipalians!

Friday 22, 5.30 – 9 pm
Screening of the movie Les enfants du paradis, « children of paradise ». Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage document, Les enfants du paradis is one of the most famous French films worldwide and has been inciting admiration since its release in 1945. Being in two parts, there will be an interval with snacks and sodas in between

Sunday 24, 3 - 4.30 pm
Quiz and games about Francophony, for French speaking/learning people even if they are pure beginners. A great deal of entertainment and culture where you'll have fun and get the occasion of feeling member of the French speaking community worldwide!

4.30 - 6 pm
Karaoke and traditional French dances, Open to all.
2 Workshops of French songs and dances! You want to discover French music from rock to rap, from classical songs to hip-hop, this is here! You'll get the opportunity to listen to various French songs and more, to sing them with our karaoke.
May be this won't be enough and you want to learn to French dances! No problem, we offer to you an introduction to some traditional French dance. Don't worry, no French Cancan if you are a beginner but a glimpse of regional and antique dances!

6 - 7 pm
Drinks and HARLEM SHAKE. Bring a fancy dress. Let us bring the best version on Youtube!!!

Manipal wiki

Here is the first step of our project with the beginner students (a1 part1). The idea is to create a short wiki about Manipal as there is no information available in French on the web. These first lines were written on sunday the 10th of march after an exercise on how to use two French expressions: «c'est» (i.e it is) and «il y a» (i.e there is / there are). First, students had to work in small groups and then they put their sentences in common. They finally synthetised the data to create this little description of Manipal. Their teacher had nothing to correct, they did everything by themselves. As the students have attended only 34 hours of French, there are only two words to say : bravo, congratulation ! To be continued...

Manipal, c'est une petite ville universitaire du Karnataka. Il y a une grande et bonne université internationale. L'université commence en 1953. Le créateur de l'université est le Dr. T.M.A. PAI. Il y a beaucoup d'étudiants. Donc ce n'est pas calme, c'est très animé. Il y a un grand hôpital ; il s'appelle KMC. C'est un bon hôpital. Il y a deux magnifiques plages et de bons restaurants. Il n'y a pas de monuments. Il y a le quartier général de Syndicate Bank. Le temps est très chaud.
