The Cell Therapy Conclave – 2, jointly organized by the Department of Biotherapeutics Research (DBR), MAHE, and Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, was held on October 30th and 31st, 2025, encompassing two days of inspiring discussions on the future of regenerative medicine.

The event was inaugurated in the presence of eminent personalities, including the President of the ceremony, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor, MAHE, the Guests of Honor, Dr. Sharath K Rao, Pro-Vice Chancellor, MAHE and Mr. Manohar B N, MD&CEO, Stempeutics Research Pvt Ltd, the Chief Guest, Dr. Maneesha S Inamdar, Director, BRIC-InStem & Professor, JNCASR, Bengaluru, along with the organizing chairpersons, Dr. Raviraja N S, Senior Director-Research, MAHE, Professor and HOD, DBR, MAHE, and Dr. Anil K Bhat, Dean, Professor, Department of Hand Surgery, KMC, Manipal.

The conclave brought together leading scientists, clinicians, and biotech innovators to explore advances in cellular therapeutics, gene editing, and translational research.

Distinguished speakers, including Dr. Maneesha S Inamdar, Director, BRIC-InStem & Professor, JNCASR, Bengaluru, Dr. Vikram Mathews, Director, Professor of Clinical Hematology, Christian Medical College, Vellore, Dr. Akhil Kumar, Chief Medical Officer, Aurigene Oncology Ltd, Bengaluru, Dr. Rahul Purwar, Founder & CEO of ImmunoACT, Mumbai, Dr. Abheek Kar, Orthopaedician, Apollo Multispeciality Hospital, Kolkata, and Dr. Dinesh Kundu, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, EastOcyon Bio, Gurugram, Haryana, shared insights into the evolving landscape of cell-based therapies.

During the valedictory ceremony, the efforts of the poster presenters were recognized, and the winners were congratulated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Manohar B. N., MD & CEO, Stempeutics Research Pvt. Ltd.
Over 250 students and young researchers participated in interactive sessions and poster presentations, reflecting the growing curiosity and collaboration that drive this field forward.

MAHE’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to advancing biomedical innovation that bridges discovery and patient care, with the conclave serving as a testament to DBR’s mission of fostering scientific exchange and translational impact.

The Department of Biotherapeutics Research (DBR) - MAHE, under the initiative of the 'Off the Trail Club', spent an inspiring and impactful evening at Hoode Beach, Udupi , embodying the true spirit of collective responsibility and learning.

In a thoughtful blend of environmental action and team building, students, PhD scholars, faculty and staff came together for a beach cleaning drive, demonstrating DBR’s commitment to sustainability and community welfare.
Post clean-up, the team enjoyed kayaking and boating in the calm backwaters a refreshing experience that fostered relaxation and unity.

Kudos to the Off the Trail Club and all participating students, PhD scholars, faculty and staff for making this initiative both impactful and memorable!

As part of Daan Utsav 2025, the Department of Biotherapeutics Research (DBR) visited the Planet Mars Foundation in Kallianpura on October 11, 2025.
The visit began with a warm and heartfelt welcome, as the students greeted our team with beautifully handcrafted roses. A brief formal session followed, during which representatives from DBR introduced the department's initiatives, ongoing research, and the spirit behind Daan Utsav.
The interaction also included an engaging discussion with the students about the diverse academic and professional opportunities available after pre-university education. The Vice President of the Foundation shared insights into their vision, the challenges they encounter, and their efforts to empower young learners.

The visit was a meaningful reminder of the importance of compassion, knowledge sharing, and collective growth—values that Daan Utsav embodies.

Department of Biotherapeutics Research – Establishment Day Celebration

The Department of Biotherapeutics Research commemorated its 4th Establishment Day with a series of meaningful events.
The occasion commenced with a Pooja ceremony (Gana Homa), followed by the inauguration of R&D Lab 5 by Mrs. Vasanti R Pai, Trustee, MAHE Trust, along with Dr. H S Ballal, Pro-chancellor, MAHE, Manipal, Dr. Sharath K Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Health Sciences, MAHE, Manipal, Dr. Raviraja NS, Head, Department of Biotherapeutics Research, MAHE, Manipal, University officials, and Heads of various Departments and Institutions of MAHE, marking an important milestone in the department’s expanding research infrastructure.
As part of the celebration, we were honored to host Dr. K. R. Sridhar, Professor and UGC-BSR Faculty, Mangalore University, who delivered an invited lecture on “Mushrooms and Their Nutraceutical Potential.” The session offered valuable insights into the therapeutic promise of fungi, sparking ideas on its role in advancing Biotherapeutics. Following this, Dr. K. R. Sridhar was felicitated by the faculty at DBR for his contributions to the fields of Mycology and Ecology.

Ms. Varsha Pai V, Dr. TMA Pai Research Fellow at MCBR, MAHE, under the guidance of Dr. Abhishek Kumar Singh, was awarded the prestigious International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) Travel Award to attend the 28th Annual Meeting of the Korean Society for Brain and Neural Sciences (K-Brain 2025) and the 3rd CJK Neuroscience Meeting, held in Incheon, South Korea, from August 24–27, 2025.

She delivered an oral presentation of her research at this prestigious international conference, which brought together leading neuroscientists from across the globe to discuss the latest advancements in brain research and neuroscience innovations. This achievement highlights the global recognition of her work and the impactful research being conducted at MCBR.

MCBR congratulates Ms. Varsha Pai V on this accomplishment and wishes her continued success in her research journey.
