DCS Students Shine at Karnataka State School Chess Championship

Students of Derik’s Chess School (DCS) delivered an outstanding performance at the Karnataka State School Chess Championship held at Kaup, Udupi, under the aegis of the Karnataka State Chess Association, bringing laurels to DCS with exceptional performances across multiple age categories.

Leading the contingent was DCS pride Aadhya A. Shetty, who continues to establish herself as one of the most consistent performers in her age category at the state level. Seeded second in the Under-15 Girls category, Aadhya faced a FIDE-rated opponent in every round and scored an impressive 4 points from 5 rounds. She finished in a four-way tie for first place, but her superior tie-break score earned her the prestigious State Championship title.

Aadhya has been in remarkable form this year. Recently, she also stole the spotlight by securing third place in a Freestyle Chess Tournament in Mangalore, finishing behind only an International Master (IM) and a FIDE Master (FM). She is a student of Grade 9 at Lourdes Central School, Mangalore.

Another impressive performance came from DCS talent Aarushi Rai, who secured the runner-up position in the Under-11 Girls category with an excellent score of 5 points from 6 rounds. Aarushi is studying in grade 6 at Vivekananda English Medium School, Puttur.

In the Open Under-9 category, Joshua Jais added another podium finish for DCS by securing third place with 5½ points from 7 rounds. Joshua is a grade 4 student of Mount Carmel Central School.

DCS alumna Aarushi D’silva dominated Under 17 Girls category to win the title with 4 points in as many rounds.

Derik’s Chess School congratulates Aadhya, Aarushi, Joshua, and all the DCS students who participated in the championship. Their dedication, fighting spirit, and consistent performances have brought immense pride to the chess school, their parents, and their respective schools. We wish them continued success and many more achievements in the future.
