Dengue Awareness Programme at St. Mary’s P. U. College

To spread awareness of dengue and promote and provide a safer and healthier environment, St. Mary’s College organized a dengue awareness campaign on 31st July 2019. A special assembly was organized by Sr. Sagaya Mary the Principal & Mrs. Smitha Karat, biology lecturer to acquaint the students and staff about the symptoms, preventive and remedial measures of dengue thereby encouraging the students to spread awareness about the disease among the students, among their family members and their neighbourhood.
Principal, Mrs. Smitha and students went on larva hunting drive, to identify & destroy mosquito larva in the campus. Some larva samples were brought to the campaign to show to the students.
Through this campaign, major emphasis was laid on preventing the stagnation of water, which often becomes the breeding ground for mosquitoes. Concluding remarks were given by Principal along with homework to collect larva from their surroundings and she also announced class wise prizes for the students who collect highest amount of larva.

Green Day Celebration at St. Mary’s P.U. College

Green Day Celebration was held on 3rd July 2019 at St. Mary’s P. U. College, Falnir, Mangaluru. Mr. Ronald D’souza the Ex President of APMC, Cluster President of Akila Bharatha Janajagrathi Vedike was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He addressed the students stressing on the need to adopt green ways of life to energize and revitalize our lives to build a greener world. He encouraged each student to plant a tree so that enough oxygen is produced for our need. He also provided the students sufficient saplings to plant.
A short cultural programme was put by the students of the Eco Club in the form of skit and dance to create awareness to nurture nature. Sr. Sahaya Mary the Principal of the college welcomed the gathering. Ms. Umaiba anchored the programme on the occasion. Ms. Hajira Zulfath proposed the vote of thanks. After the programme the President, Principal, staff and the students planted five fruit saplings in the college campus.

St. Mary’s P. U. College Cabinet Inaugural 2019 – 20

The Student Cabinet of St. Mary’s P. U. College for the academic year 2019 – 20 was solemnly inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Sr. Gloria, Sr. Sahaya, Mrs. Smitha and Ms. Hazira Zulfath.
The ceremony began with a prayer song followed by the oath taking ceremony which was administered by Sr. Sahaya Mary the Principal of the college. Sr. Gloria the Joint Secretary of St. Mary’s Institutions was the Chief Guest on the occasion. During her address she urged the student leaders to work together, she explained with a motivating story which showed the qualities of charity, love and service. She also stressed never to give up when there are failures. Finally concluded her address with a quote “United we stand divided we fall”.
The newly elected cabinet members are Hazira Zulfath Student President, Thanvika Shetty Secretary, Mariyam Umaiba Science secretary, Naila Abdul Nasser Commerce secretary, Kanzul Azmeen Sports secretary, Fathima Thashmith cultural secretary.
The programme was competently compered by Ms. Zulfa Naz, Ms. Thanvika Shetty welcomed the gathering. Ms. Hazira Zulfath proposed the vote of thanks. The ceremony concluded with a value based skit and an entertaining dance.

Traditional Day Celebration at St. Mary’s P.U.C.

Nation’s culture resides in the hearts & in the soul of its people. To promote “Unity in Diversity”, traditional day was celebrated recently at St. Mary’s P. U. College, Falnir, Mangaluru.
It was observed as a celebration of India’s diverse culture. Students were dressed up in their best traditional attire, representing different states of our country. Celebration of regional festivals, weddings and traditional dances were presented through variety entertainment.
As a part of the celebrations, singing and dance competitions were also held. Ms. Saushan compered the programme. The event was a feast to the eyes and definitely strengthened the bond among the students and created respect for ethnic diversity.
Principal, Sr. Rachana A.C. and the staff graced the colourful event. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Kanjul Azmeen and the National Anthem.

Mangaluru: St. Mary's students outcry the echoes of the girl child

Students of St. Mary's P.U. College, Falnir organised a unique programme " Echoes of the Girl Child " to offer their support to the victims of sexual violence rampantly taking place in different parts of India.

The event commenced with a prayer, Singing Out The Hearts' a desperate outcry of all girl children to save and protect little girls who are vulnerable and fragile in the hands of the wicked and ruthless men. A musical dance drama was presented by the students adapting recent incidents like the Nirbhaya crime, Acid attack and the rampant child trafficking. A clarion call for strong action was expressed loud and clear depicting the nari shakti which was presented through another group song and dance. A meaningful candle light vigil was held by students to show their solidarity with the victims of child sexual abuse, reminiscing the atrocities against girls and women with slogans, demanding stringent punishment, better security for girls and a plea that women be spared from this traumatic violence. Thereafter a moment of silence was observed followed by prayers offered for for all the victims of sexual violence and a pledge of liberation was administered by the College Student President Mariam Azra to the student community.

The chief guest Mrs Vidya Dinkar, a Veteran Social Activist, in her address said that the state of girls and women in India is going from bad to worse . Sexual abuse has become the new norm in our country. Girls and women are getting r***d daily in different parts of India despite public anger voiced through protests, candle light vigils, dharnas and silent marches. She gave a wake up call to all the students to awake, arise and stand united to fight this menace.

Ms. Lo**ta welcomed the gathering, Zoya Azeez compered the programme and Zainab Mukthar rendered the vote of thanks. The programme ended with the students motivated and ready to take on this malady more effectively.

St. Mary’s P. U. College commemorates the great Martyrs on ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ celebration held on July 26, 2018. Venkatesh Kumpala ex- military physiotherapist was the Chief Guest for the programme.
He in his address “emphasized the selfless service rendered by our soldiers and urged students to take up careers in the armed forces”.
Students presented cultural programme depicting patriotic fervor in the form of dance drama and patriotic song thus giving homage to the Kargil Martyrs. A short documentary of Kargil war scenes was screened.
Vijayalakshmi lecturer in chemistry welcomed the gathering. Fathima Israh compered the programme. Hiba Jameela rendered the vote of thanks. The celebration concluded with the echo of Jai Hind.

St. Mary's P.U. College salutes the unsung heroes of Milagres Ward of Mangalore City Corporation.

The Sesquicentennial Celebration of The Foundation of The Apostolic Carmel was celebrated with the unsung heroes of the city at St Mary's PU College, Falnir, Mangalore which was held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Rev. Fr. Clifford Fernandes, the Parish Priest of St. Joseph's Church, Jeppu was the chief guest and Sr. Gloria, the Joint Secretary of St. Mary's Institutions presided over the programme.

The event commenced with a prayer service filling the atmosphere with divinity and grace. Sr. Rachana, the principal of the college welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest. To commemorate the 150th year of the Foundation Day of The Apostolic Carmel, the staff of Mangalore City Corporation, managed by Antony Waste Management Company were offered a special invitation. Their dedicated service to the city towards a clean and healthy environment was acknowledged by felicitating eight members of the Milagres ward, Mr. Chandrakantha, Mr. Kumara, Mrs. Parvathi, Mrs. Savamma, Mrs. Gangamma, Mrs. Sharada, Mrs. Lakshmi, Mrs. Geetha.

The chief guest in his address appreciated the services of these unsung heroes of the city and he exhorted the students that they need to remain grateful to thousands of people like these who make their lives a blessed one through their yeomen service to the society.

The celebration culminated with a memorable folk dance and dance drama entitled " Life of Mother Veronica, the Foundress of the Apostolic Carmel” performed by students, thus providing them with an opportunity to know Mother Veronica and the legacy she has left behind.

Mrs Akshatha R lecturer in Psychology compered the programme and Mrs Vijaylakshmi lecturer in Chemisty rendered the vote of thanks on the occasion. The programme ended on a high note with a message uplifting the ideals of Mother Veronica kept alive through St. Mary's Institutions.

‘Go Green’ celebration was held on Thursday 5th July 2018 at St. Mary’s P. U. College, Falnir, Mangaluru.
Mr. Blany D’souza a well known Terrace gardener, the Chief Guest on the occasion, addressing the students stressed the need to adopt green ways of life to energize and revitalize our lives to build a greener world.
The campus buzzed with wide variety of programmes in the form of Dance, Mime, Skit by students to create awareness to nurture nature.
Mrs. Akshatha coordinator of the programme welcomed the gathering. Ms. Sabeeha Fathima proposed the vote of thanks & Ms. Aryasree anchored the programme on the occasion.

Freshers' Day celebration held at St Mary's P. U.C. Falnir.

St.Mary's PU College Falnir had organized “The Freshers' Day’' for I PUC students. It was indeed a fun-filled event, during which the freshers got an opportunity to not only showcase their talents, but also had a wonderful time interacting with their seniors.

The college also organized a felicitation ceremony to honour the hard work and dedication put in by the PUC students of I and II, during the Academic year 2017-18. A total of 30 students were presented with mementos. The event was indeed a grand success.

The student cabinet of St. Mary’s P U College for the academic year 2018-19 was formally inaugurated in the college auditorium. The ceremony began with a prayer song.The oath of office for the student cabinet, class representatives and their assistants was administered by Sr. Rachana A C the Principal of the college. Sr.Gloria Joint Secretary of St. Mary’s institutions was the chief guest on the occasion. The Joint Secretary gave a message asking the cabinet to create harmonious working atmosphere by motivating & encouraging students to dream and aspire for a better future.
