ENDOWMENT LECTURE REPORT
The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, MCODS, Mangalore in association with the MCODS Mangalore Orthodontic Alumni Association(MMOAA) successfully conducted the third “Dr. V Surendra Shetty – Dr. Subraya Mogra Endowment Oration” on 5th July,2022 , to honour these two legends in the field of Orthodontics.
The inaugural program commenced with a warm welcome rendered by Dr. Supriya Nambiar, HoD and Chief Convenor, MMOAA. The chief guest for the function was Dr. PLNG Rao, Pro VC (Medical and Dental Sciences), MAHE. Dr. Dilip G. Naik, Pro VC (Mangalore campus), Dr. Ash*ta Uppoor, Dean, and Associate Deans Dr. Premlatha Shetty and Dr. Junaid Ahmed graced the occasion with their presence. Dr. Arathi Rao, Co-ordinator of Alumni Relations, MCODS, Mangalore was also present along with several members of the MMOAA. The program was conducted in a hybrid mode. A felicitation program for senior alumni of batch 88-89 was conducted.Dr. Sasil Poonnen, Dr. V. Krupanidhi, Dr. L. Ananth, and Dr. Ramesh Vinjamuri were felicitated via online mode through zoom. Dr. Jojoe Chettupuzha was felicitated in person.
The guest orator was Dr. K. Jyothindra Kumar, an academician, educator and researcher par excellence. He has held several distinguished positions such as President- IOS, Founder Secretary of IBO, Editor of JIOS and many more; during his long and illustrious career.The topic of the oration was “Digital Orthodontics: Understanding the new era”. Dr. Jyothindra Kumar spoke extensively on how digitisation has revolutionized diagnosis and treatment planning in orthodontics and also makes it possible to achieve far greater precision in treatment outcomes.
The oration was a very informative and enriching learning experience for its vast audience which comprised of over 250 participants including several renowned clinicians and senior alumni from all over the globe

Workshop on Orthodontic Clear Aligners

The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, MCODS, Mangalore, successfully conducted an intensive Hands-On Workshop on "Orthodontic Clear Aligners" from 11th to 13th April 2022.
The program's course faculty were Dr. Dhiraj Shetty, a renowned clinician and pioneer of in-house Orthodontic aligner treatment, and Dr. Shravan Shetty, proficient in orthodontic aligner treatment planning.
The inaugural program was presided over by Dr. Dilip.G. Naik, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (Mangalore Campus). Dr. Ash*ta Uppoor, Dean, MCODS Mangalore, was the Guest of Honour. The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Akther Hussain, Dean YDC; Dr. Nillan Shetty, Dean AJIDS; Dr. Premlatha Shetty, and Dr. Junaid Ahmed, Assoc Deans, MCODS, Mangalore, all the Heads of Department, Faculty, and Postgraduates.
The 3-day program comprised an insight into simple and complex cases treated with in-house aligners by Dr.Dhiraj Shetty and a Hands-on demonstration of various steps involved in aligner fabrication. The workshop venue was the Department of Orthodontics, MCODS, Mangalore. The participants were restricted to a small group of 16 members to facilitate individual attention and interactive discussions.
The first day began with a comprehensive lecture covering the basics and biomechanics of aligner treatment and detailed discussions on cases treated by Dr. Dhiraj. The Noon session comprised a demonstration of various software planning protocols by Dr Shravan.
The second day commenced with a lecture and discussion on the complex cases treated successfully with in-house aligners. This was followed by a clinical demonstration of attachment placement, Inter Proximal Reduction techniques, and Aligner delivery protocols.
The third day comprised an Aligner thermoforming, finishing, and packaging demonstration. The noon session was a session on comparing various Scanners, Orthodontic treatment planning software, and 3D printers.
The Hands-On Workshop on Orthodontic Clear Aligners was supported by Lodestar Innovations Pvt Ltd, Laxmi Dental Group, Sahas Softech LLP, Virgo Solutions.
The workshop concluded with a valedictory function, and certification was presented to each participant by the Dean. The workshop was highly appreciated and was an excellent learning experience.

Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Sungai Buloh Campus, Selangor, Malaysia organised an International Medical Innovation Competition 2021 (IMIC 2021) “MEDInnovation2021” on a virtual platform wherein students and academicians from around the world participated. The Team from MCODS Mangalore, affiliate institution of Manipal Academy of higher Education, Manipal comprising of Dr. Sakshi Sachdeva under the guidance of Dr. Supriya Nambiar and team members Dr. Collin Robert & Dr. Gangadharan K.V. Won the silver medal in the qualified innovation category and a second prize in the overall outstanding innovation. They had submitted their innovation titled “A Remotely Controlled Mandibular Repositioner with integrated Continuous Positive Airway Pressure Titrator for Sleep Apnoea” as a video presentation in the first round. A total of 15 innovations were shortlisted from amongst the several global entries of which this entry was selected as one of the top 3 winners in the postgraduate international category. This was followed by an opportunity to participate in a “1 minute elevator pitch” which was held on 27th August 2021. The Team bagged a silver medal in the qualified innovation category and a second prize in the overall outstanding innovation.
