💗 Self Compassion Break 💗
My inner critic is so loud at the moment that I’ve taken to berating myself out loud throughout the day 🤦♀️ Not good. Why am I being so mean to myself? Would I talk that way to a friend? No. ✋🏼
But this week I’ve also learned a bit more about self compassion thanks to and the course I am doing with her ‘Elevating Children through Yoga & Creativity’ 🌟
This course has introduced me to Dr Kristin Neff and mindful self compassion. I’ve always thought self compassion was an intention - oh be nice to yourself, give yourself a break. Words that I’ve never really put into action. But Dr Kristin Neff has a practice called a ‘Self compassion break’ which is a really simple exercise that helps you to be kinder to yourself - and it only takes 5 minutes.
Find a comfortable seat, soften the eyes and call to mind a situation that is troubling you. Really take a moment to bring the situation to life in your mind and then acknowledge your suffering. Tell yourself ‘this is really hard’ or ‘I’m struggling’. Acknowledge it. Next, tell yourself that suffering is normal, it’s part of the human condition, everyone suffers at times. Finally take a moment to comfort yourself. Use words that soothe you, maybe a phrase you might say to a friend ‘It’ll be ok’, ‘I’m here for you’. You could bring a hand to your heart to offer comfort. Be really tender and kind. Your heart will thank you for it 💗💗💗
Give it a try and see how it feels to be gentle with yourself 🌸
