💗 Self Compassion Break 💗
My inner critic is so loud at the moment that I’ve taken to berating myself out loud throughout the day 🤦‍♀️ Not good. Why am I being so mean to myself? Would I talk that way to a friend? No. ✋🏼
But this week I’ve also learned a bit more about self compassion thanks to and the course I am doing with her ‘Elevating Children through Yoga & Creativity’ 🌟
This course has introduced me to Dr Kristin Neff and mindful self compassion. I’ve always thought self compassion was an intention - oh be nice to yourself, give yourself a break. Words that I’ve never really put into action. But Dr Kristin Neff has a practice called a ‘Self compassion break’ which is a really simple exercise that helps you to be kinder to yourself - and it only takes 5 minutes.
Find a comfortable seat, soften the eyes and call to mind a situation that is troubling you. Really take a moment to bring the situation to life in your mind and then acknowledge your suffering. Tell yourself ‘this is really hard’ or ‘I’m struggling’. Acknowledge it. Next, tell yourself that suffering is normal, it’s part of the human condition, everyone suffers at times. Finally take a moment to comfort yourself. Use words that soothe you, maybe a phrase you might say to a friend ‘It’ll be ok’, ‘I’m here for you’. You could bring a hand to your heart to offer comfort. Be really tender and kind. Your heart will thank you for it 💗💗💗
Give it a try and see how it feels to be gentle with yourself 🌸

Still landing after an amazing week in Goa with and a bunch of new friends ✨
We laughed, danced, swam, sunbathed and shared so many special moments. The biggest thing for me was how present I felt throughout the week. It was like everything that was bothering me before I left just dropped away. 💙
Trying to hold onto the magic and the freedom this week as I head back to work, back to the cold, back to reality. Thank you Tanja and all the lovely souls for the most magical, beautiful week 💙💙💙

Courage (or lack of courage) seems to be a recurrent theme in my life lately. Someone I cared about hurt me through their lack of courage. And I myself have at times not had the courage to listen to my intuition and make the best choices. Neither of these things have served me well. 🙈 I’ve felt weak, stupid and like I should know better.
But when I think about all the other areas of my life where I do show courage, I feel much stronger. This year I have made a commitment to feel my pain and not hide from it any longer. It feels messy and difficult and at times overwhelming. But I know in my gut and in my heart that it’s a necessary path.
But acts of courage don’t have to be huge, life changing things. And I’m realising that it’s not going to be one big change that sorts my life out, it’s going to be lots of small acts. Seemingly inconsequential moments where I make better choices, situations where I can dip my toe outside my comfort zone, simple things that make me happy. Courage doesn’t have to mean ripping open your chest for those people you love, it has to start with listening to your heart and slowly slowly starting to follow it ❤️

January is a funny time. A new year, a blank slate, ready for whatever you make of it. But the turn of the calendar is just arbitrary, it doesn’t automatically reset anything.
After a tough December, I could do with a fresh start…if only it were simple. Right now being happy feels like a practice, not something to take for granted, but something to work for. And so I will… focusing on the small things that make me smile, getting out in the pale winter sunshine. Moving a bit more, doing more yoga. Meditating. Trying to plan things to look forward to but not getting too hung up on what lies in the future. Spending more time with loved ones. Cultivating a better relationship with myself. Not trying to change anything for anyone, just becoming more contented with being me. 💚
