🥔 National Potato Day Celebrated at Abhilashi University

On August 19, 2026, the School of Agriculture, Abhilashi University, Chailchowk, Mandi (HP), celebrated National Potato Day with enthusiasm and learning, highlighting the importance of potato in food security, nutrition, health, and livelihoods.
The celebration featured an insightful webinar on “Importance of Potato in Food and Nutritional Security” by Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Scientist (Vegetables), College of Horticulture & Forestry (UHF), Thunag at Gudhari (Gohar), Mandi (HP), who discussed advances in potato breeding, varietal improvement, and modern production technologies.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. HK Chaudhary, emphasized the rich potato-growing potential of the Himalayas, the importance of hill germplasm, and the role of biotechnology in developing improved seed potato varieties.
The programme also included an MCQ presentation by Ms. Mehak Dhalaria and a creative poster competition on “Potato Benefits on Health and Their Importance” by B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture Second Year students.

Prof. P.C. Sharma, Dean, School of Agriculture, shared his valuable experiences in potato research and highlighted the contributions of the legendary “Potato King of India,” Shri Jang Bahadur Singh Sangha.

Special appreciation to Dr. Manish Chauhan and Dr. Mohd. Shah Alam for organizing and coordinating the event. With 56 students and faculty members participating, the celebration became a meaningful platform for knowledge-sharing, creativity, and inspiration.

Abhilashi University Begins 15-Day Orientation Programme for Health Sciences Students
The School of Health Sciences, Abhilashi University has commenced a 15-day Orientation Programme for newly admitted students from August 18, 2026, aimed at familiarising them with the academic environment, professional expectations, career opportunities, institutional values and healthcare disciplines.
The programme covers five departments: BMLS, BAOTT, BMRIT, BPT and MPHW, coordinated by Dr. Aakriti Guleria (BMLS, BAOTT & BMRIT), Dr. Archna (BPT) and Mrs. Sunita Bhalla (MPHW).
The inaugural session featured an inspiring address by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. H. K. Chaudhary, who encouraged students to pursue their education with dedication, discipline, professional ethics and a commitment to serving society.
Prof. D. K. Mishra, Dean, Ayurveda and Health Sciences, highlighted the academic and professional opportunities available to students and encouraged them to make the most of their University experience.
Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. R. K. Abhilashi and Hon’ble Pro Chancellor Dr. L. K. Abhilashi extended their best wishes and reaffirmed the University's commitment to quality education and developing skilled, ethical and responsible healthcare professionals.
Registrar Dr. Kapil Kapoor, Deans, faculty members, staff and students, were also present.
The orientation will include academic, professional and interactive sessions covering courses, laboratories, clinical exposure, career pathways, professional responsibilities and student support facilities.

Seven-Day Anti-Ragging Week Concludes at Abhilashi University

Abhilashi University successfully concluded its seven-day Anti-Ragging Week, organized in accordance with UGC guidelines, with an inspiring ceremony in the gracious presence of Hon’ble Chancellor Dr. R.K. Abhilashi, Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor Dr. Lalit Abhilashi, and Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. H.K. Chaudhary.

The week witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments through activities and competitions promoting discipline, equality, mutual respect, goodwill and a positive academic environment.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. R.K. Abhilashi highlighted the University’s commitment to students’ holistic development, including leadership, personality development, social responsibility and future guidance for state and national civil services. He urged students to actively contribute towards maintaining a ragging-free, safe and respectful campus.

Winners of various competitions were felicitated with prizes and certificates for their outstanding participation.
