Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) led by Professor Kwang-Hyun Cho developed a technique to reprogram human colon cancer cells back into a state resembling normal cells using network-based computer modeling rather than destroying them.
The Mechanism: The team used digital simulation to identify key molecular switches (such as MYB, HDAC2, and FOXA2) that control cell differentiation trajectories.
Current Status: Laboratory experiments showed successful reversion of colon cancer cells to normal cellular characteristics, though extensive further testing and clinical trials are required before this approach can be applied in human medicine.
