π¨ Your first sentence in IELTS Writing Task 2 can make a strong first impression!
The general statement is one of the most important parts of your introduction because it shows the examiner that you've understood the question.
Here are 3 simple ways to write a strong general statement:
β
1. Explain why the topic is important Question: Some people think public transport should be free. Example: Public transport plays a vital role in connecting people with workplaces, educational institutions, and essential services.
β
2. Mention a recent development Question: More people are working from home. Example: In recent years, remote working has become increasingly common due to technological advancements and changing workplace practices.
β
3. Show its impact on daily life or society Question: Children spend too much time on smartphones. Example: The increasing use of smartphones has significantly influenced children's daily routines, learning habits, and social interactions.
π‘ Use these three methods to write natural, high-scoring introductions instead of memorising templates.
