Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931, to a Tamil Muslim family in the pilgrimage centre of Rameswaram on Pamban Island. He was an Indian aerospace scientist and statesman who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007.He spent the four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and was intimately involved in India's civilian space programme and military missile development efforts. He thus came to be known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology

Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated on ‘Purnima Day’ during the month of Ashwin and it marks the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki. The devotees celebrate this day with great enthusiasm holding processions, meetings, recitation of verses of Ramayana in reminiscence of Maharishi Valmiki. This day holds religious significance as it celebrates the contribution of the sage Valmiki. He was the author of the Hindu epic Ramayana which depicts the story of Lord Rama written in Sanskrit language that consists of 24,000 verses divided into seven kandas (cantos). This day is celebrated as ‘PragatDiwas’ with dedication to pay tribute to a sage who conquered his limitations and encouraged the masses to fight against social injustice. He propagated the values of Lord Ram and recognized him as a man of penance.
