In its March 2026 judgment, the Supreme Court held that parental salary alone cannot determine whether an OBC candidate belongs to the creamy layer; the nature and status of the parents’ employment must also be considered.

UP POLICE IN ACTION | MULTIPLE ENCOUNTERS REPORTED ACROSS UTTAR PRADESH!

Law-enforcement operations have intensified across several districts of Uttar Pradesh, with police reporting multiple encounters, arrests and recoveries during action against suspects wanted in different criminal cases.

In Mirzapur, police arrested Farid, whom authorities have linked to an alleged religious-conversion network reportedly operating through gym activities. Police said he was injured during an exchange of fire. Four other accused had previously been jailed and four gyms sealed in connection with the investigation.

In Kanpur, police reported that Crime Branch personnel came under fire during a checking operation. Suspect Niyaz Ahmed was injured in the subsequent exchange. Police say he faces more than 20 criminal cases.

Separate operations were also reported in Bahraich and Sonbhadra involving suspects accused of cattle smuggling. In Sonbhadra, police reported recovering cattle, a vehicle and illegal weapons, while a constable was also injured.

Meanwhile, Bulandshahr police reported an encounter involving wanted suspects Honey Verma and Anuj Verma, both carrying ₹25,000 rewards.

Police say operations against alleged criminal networks are continuing. However, these details largely represent official police accounts, and the allegations and circumstances surrounding each incident remain subject to investigation and judicial scrutiny.
