Few major points about the play Justice : (Part -A)

1. It is a social tragedy or Problem play .
2. The Trial takes place in Act-2
3. Galsworthy’s Justice deals with justice , legal as well as social.
4. Impact of the strict enforcement of legal justice and lack of social justice goes hand in hand .
5. Falder is sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for three years.
6. Falder is prosecuted under criminal law for committing the crime of forgery .
7. Name of the defense counsel : Mr. Frome
8. Name of the prosecution counsel Mr. Cleaver
9. The play has four acts .
10. The starting of the play is that of : suspense of crime drama
11. The plot of the play lies within plutocratic community .
12. Falder , the central character of this tragedy , is a clerk in a firm of solicitor

The maddening situation compelled him to make an attempt to obtain an employment by means of a forged reference . This was being informed to police . Hence , Mr Wister made his appearance to arrest him .
24. Falder jumps from window to escape from the clutch of the existing law and lies dead , with his broken neck .
25. James How is the boss of the Firm of solicitors …..and Walter How is his son .

Loving In Truth - Sir Philip Sidney

Data Bank:

1. Philip Sidney’s famous poem “Loving in truth” is Sonnet 1 of his popular sonnet sequence “Astrophel and Stella”.
2. It is a series of 108 sonnets published in 1591.
3. This sonnet sequence which owe to Petrarch and Ronsard in tone and style places Sidney as the greatest Elizabethan sonneteer except Shakespeare.
4. Sidney uses the word “Astrophel” to denote himself.
5.The Greek word “astrophel” means star- lover and “Stella” is a Latin word means star.
6. The sonnet “Loving in Truth” is an expression of the sonneteer’s unrequited love.
7. The sonnet is very autobiographical. 8. Here the poet expresses his passion of love for his beloved Penelope Devereux. 8. He wants to use his verse as an expression of his love. But he does not find proper words and poetic expression to write verse.
9. He wants to borrow words and poetic inspiration from other writers to represent his pain.
10. But poetry is an art of spontaneity. It is not possible by copying others. So, the poet’s effort fails.
11. At last, he realizes that true poetry originates from one’s inner feelings.
12. Here the poet highlights the power of emotion as the source of poetry.
13. “Loving in truth” resembles a Petrarchan sonnet.
14. The theme of the sonnet is love which is a characteristic feature of Petrarchan sonnet.
15. The first 8 lines make the octave (octet). It depicts the poet’s deep love for his lady. It also shows the poet’s efforts to entertain his lady by writing verse.
16. The last 6 lines form the sestet. It highlights the poet’s failure. Here the poet realizes that true poetic inspiration comes from inside one’s heart and emotion is the mother of poetry.
17. The poem is rhyming as ABAB ABAB CDCD EE.
18. “Loving in truth” has been written in iambic hexameter (except line 4) instead of iambic pentameter which is the usual measure of the sonnet. Here Sidney shows an unestablished form of sonnet
