In collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, S.G.G.S. Khalsa College, Mahilpur, and G.V. Organics, Hoshiarpur, organized an internship program from March 17, 2025 to March 29, 2025, titled “Agricultural Visits and Farm Practices Training Program.”

GLIMPSES OF THE AGRICULTURAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FROM 21 MARCH 2025 TO 29 MARCH 2025

1) G.V. ORGANICS IN THE VILLAGE, HARIPUR, HOSHIARPUR: The G.V. Organics manufacturer and suppliers of vermicompost, vermi tea, and wash, Eisenia foetida (compost worm). Er. Tan Vir Pruthi, who is the owner cm manager, and the team member Mr. Devpal explained the process of making of vermicompost and vermiwash, different techniques include production, grading, quality maintenance, packaging, storage and transportation of vermicompost. Er Tan Vir Sir also showcased the design and concept of the vermicompost production unit and the vermicompost screening machine.

2) GLEANING INSIGHTS FROM S. SURJIT SINGH (NATIONAL AWARD WINNER), CHAGGRAN: We went to meet Sh. Surjit Singhji, the President Award Winner for one of his innovations, a corn separator or harvester without damaging seed that works manually. He is famous for his organic farming. He makes his vermicompost for organic farming and also sets up a low-scale jaggery plant and mushroom production unit.

3) CHEEMA DAIRY FARM DALEWAL, HOSHIARPUR: The owner of the farm, Mr. Maninder Singh Cheema, shared about life experiences in the dairy business and how they faced a problem in starting a dairy farm. He also showcased the drip irrigation system in the field of maize. He gave a life lesson to the students that if you want to do something in life, then you need determination and hard work for it.

4) SAINI DRAGON FRUIT FARM, UNA ROAD HOSHIARUR: Farmer Mr. Dharampal explained the cultivation practices of dragon fruits along with the intercropping of different seasonal vegetables, which is the promotion of diversification in cropping system and the best utilization of one acre of land. He also told us about the marketing of dragon fruits.

5) MESSERS ISHAR SINGH, HOSHIARUR: Mr. Harbans Singh explained the principles of the working of different agricultural implements and how they make and sell the implements to the farmers and companies, as well as designing, cutting, and spacing techniques with the specification of crop cultivation.

6) KAFRO (KANDI AREA FRUIT HERBAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION) RAMGARH SIKRI, TALWARA, HOSHIARUR: It is a cooperative society that provides jobs for ladies. Here, we interacted with Mrs. Renu Sharma, assistant manager at NABARD, Chandigarh, and also a member of the cooperative society. She shared her experiences about the success of the society and also showed us the processing units of their products, well-established laboratories, and different types of machinery used in processing products. KAPRO achieved lots of National and State level products based on post-harvest processing products.

GLIMPSES OF THE AGRICULTURAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM ON 20 MARCH 2025

1) FAPRO (Farm’s Produce Promotion Society) in the village of Ghugial, Hoshiarpur (Punjab): The official FAPRO team, comprising Mr. Sukhjinder Singh and Dr. Arbind Singh Dhoot, explained that this cooperative society was established in 2001 to improve the profits of farmers by promoting their produce. Formed through the collective efforts of multiple agriculture technocrats, FAPRO today is considerate of humanitarian health and wellness, offering fine produce processed under stringent quality control, thus providing consumers with fresh, pure, and high-quality food products. The team facilitated students in various agricultural activities, highlighting the benefits of cooperative societies and self-help groups. They showcased the different processing units, including the jaggery production unit, turmeric processing and packaging unit, and honey production and filtration unit.
2) NCUI (NATIONAL CO-OPERATIVE UNION OF INDIA), HOSHIARPUR: The official NCUI team and Mr. Anil Kumar Lamba, who is the project officer of NCUI, introduced us to the cooperative aim, which focuses on skill development training and awareness programs for the community and the objectives of the NCUI project. He also told us about the skilled development training they provide for women empowerment self-help groups and how they help farmers and weaker sections of society.

In collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, S.G.G.S. Khalsa College, Mahilpur, and G.V. Organics, Hoshiarpur, organized an internship program from March 17, 2025 to March 29, 2025, titled “Agricultural Visits and Farm Practices Training Program.” This program focused on government and private agricultural organizations and provided students with opportunities to connect with various agricultural farms, production units, and learning from national awardees and progressive farmers. The aim was to broaden students' opportunities, enhance their learning capabilities, expose them to diverse perspectives, improve employability, and boost innovation.

1. The tree plantation activity commenced with the worthy Principal Dr. Parvinder Singh of S.G.G.S. Khalsa College, Mahilpur, and Internship Coordinator Er. Tan Vir Pruthi of G.V. Organics, Hoshiarpur, alongside the participation of B.Sc. Agriculture 8th semester students and faculty from the Agriculture Department, Dr. Pratibha Chauhan and Prof. Manpreet Kaur.
2. Nature Tour of Takhani Rehamanpur Wildlife Sanctuary (Dr. Amandeep Singh): This impressively conveys the concept of conserving ecological systems and maintaining biodiversity in the forest
3. Visit at progressive farmer Kahol Farm, Mehlanwali, Una Road, Hoshiarpur (Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Kahol): Elucidate small-scale organic farming model, dairy farming, post-harvest processing, value addition of agriculture produces self-marketing
4. AquaHorizon, Fish Farm at Jahan Khelan, Hoshiarpur: Leading fish culture provider in Punjab, consulted on building fish farms, feeding, market, and using techniques for fish pond protection from migratory birds
